Id recommend leveling as a riftblade Aruth, you have the same dps ranged as you do melee, its hilarious(also allows you to do some higher PQs without worry of getting wtf owned)

So are there any starting race/class combos where you don't start in a hyper frenzy combat area with a million other people?

I went with a Marksman, I want to test out adding more strong ranged attacks with the RB tricks.
Using an Assassin in there two as the third and getting stealth could be B A N A N A S.

Slurms: Reaver is a tanky life leech spec, very fun. You could add Paladin for more blocking ability, or Warlord for group buffs and enemy debuffs. Riftblade will add run speed buffs and damage buffs, and Paragon or Champion will add DPS style abilities.
Abb: For Riftstalker (Rogue) a nice one would be Ranger (for the tanky pet), or Bard is really nice since you can get some support abilities as well. Once you get that second 'Role' you will be a group friendly Rogue! *Gasp!*

Well, the warrior version is a rift blade, and warriors dont get bard as a choice.
Abb; I played my rogue only briefly, I planned to spend a little more time on him this time. With mine I did the whole stealthy backstab one and only got him to level 8 :/, good news is once you hit 13 you can try out any of the souls any time you want for free.
As for the starting areas, unfortunately yeah theyre a little packed as there's only one for either side, but the cool thing is, each race has its own specific race quests along with some common pool ones, but the quest areas all overlap in the immediate area so it cures the whole "fight your group mates for credit" spiel. Very cool. I hope they take a page from Aion and implement the whole "channel" idea in the starter zones. Would help so much with clutter

Bard/ranger(no points just for the pet)/Rift Seems to do well both solo and in a group. I also have a Marks/rift/ranger(no points). Trying out a lot of combos. But really like the bard. Played one in DAOC (hibby ftw) and wish they had the cc they had there.

They get an insta mez in the 30's that is nice, but not as much as Bards from Hib had. The Bards in Rift are meant as secondary buffer/healer/dps. Something to switch to if things get rough. I am unclear if they can support the main healer role, since they require combo points for the big heals.

I dunno, but I was playing one last night and they have twisting. I am instantly sold on this class.
I also noticed that the Riftblade gets abilities and talents that increase their defense, and an attack that generates a high amount of threat. This suggests....strongly....to me that rogues may be able to be tanks!
