I was playing on the guardian side, and they had horses at a vendor near the Quicksilver College. I assume it would be similar for the Defiants, the main hub for the first zone after you join the main timeline.

I just bopped in briefly to play with a few builds, and I noticed the racials have been changed. Every race now has a non-combat ability (the one my elf had was a sort of limited jump-flight that was verrrry kwel!) and a tiny stat bonus and the small elemental resistance. Must less broken and pigeon-holing than the old ones.

Lame, I was hoping they'd keep some kind of in combat racials

I am not a fan of combat-related racials. They inevitably pigeon-hole races into certain classes and roles (Kelari = DPS anyone?), and I prefer to have greater flexibility.

I feel the same, or give everyone the same in combat racial like sprint or something. You'll get an ability like Will of the Forsaken in WoW and people will bitch, and complain because its too strong and you watch it get nerfed into oblivion. Oh well, I really like the racials in Rift, aside from the turn into a fox to decrease aggro range one, that seems kind of lame. They do need to turn off the Eth sprint once you hit combat, as you can sprint out of combat, then run circles around an opponent.

The Eth sprint was only usable out of combat, at least since Beta 6, maybe earlier than that. So it's basically just to get you around a bit faster, not to haul ass out of a clusterhump situation. Too bad, that would have been useful a few times when I hit the Obliterate button and nuked 10 elites out of a rift raid...

I honestly don't see the use of the Eth racial after you get a mount.

Yep, pretty obsolete by then. Which means they only get two, whereas every other race gets three racial abilities. I think this is the part where I'm supposed to cry, but maybe I'll just roll something other than an Eth, and problem solved.
The way I see it, it’s not jumping the shark if you never come down.

I found the Eth sprint useful indoors or underground where you cant mount up. Or in pvp you can pop it just before battle to get a little extra suprise on the ememy.

You can't use it in combat, but as a mage, you can hit sprint, start casting spells and if someone gets close to you start running at 70% speed. It just needs to break as soon as you enter combat, but that's just me and you can only use it every 2 minutes so its not like its always up...
