Or whatever it's called. Is it fun? Is it worth getting? I just can't warm up to FPS games on the Xbox, but I'm looking for something to play. I have Half-life 2, but all the mp games cost extra (team fortress and counterstrike I think are both out and costly). I loved BF 1942, was /eh on BF vietnam, and never tried BF2. I still like the concept though.

I got a friend at work that loves BF2142. I had the demo but never really got past the control screen list. I saw how many keys were used on the keyboard and it kinda turned me off. I never even played the game. It was multiplayer demo only and I wanted to do some goofing around in single player to get use to the controls and not look too much like a goof in multiplayer. If other folks are playing in CoT I wouldn't mind looking like a goof with you all. I would just have to find the game for a decent price.

I was given it as a Christmas gift, but having played it a lot now, I consider it to be worth buying. I'm having a ton of fun with it. I like how teamwork is important, and the unlocks are worth going after, but are not overpowering or imbalancing. Same with vehicles...they are fun & useful, but not overpowering.
BF2142 is mostly MP...there isn't any single player campaign, but you can play single player 'Instant Action' games for practice.
I can't compare it to the other BF games, as I haven't played more than 15 mins total on 1942 & 2.
Eh, I guess its more than what one might be used to in RTCW/Quake/UT, but I don't think its too bad... I use: WASD for directionals, obviously CTRL for crouch Space for jump Shift for sprint Z for prone R for reload Q or T for chat E to enter/exit a vehicle
The rest of the commands are pretty situational and not used commonly.

Hah, well you'd be in good company. I die. I die a lot. I went from doing great in RTCW, UT & COD to being everybody's bitch in this game! But I still have tons of fun I'm only a Lance Corporal Gold or something like that. You can check out my horrible stats at the EA BF2142 website and search for "Aruth". BTW if anyone wants to add me as a Buddy and stalk me, do eet!

I use this: catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Product_Id=157024 (you can get it much cheaper, BTW) ...it makes me look decent at FPS even though I'm terribly out of practice. Things are hectic for me right now but I'm considering some FPS for purchase and if the vehicles aren't as powerful as they were in BF2, I'd get BF2142. I used to love playing around as a chopper pilot...poor Mal would get thrashed by me many times before I semi-got the hang of it..and then I'd still kill him off and get some negative points due to my flying...I live on the edge!

I just suck at fps. Always found it awkward to not have a full 120-130 degree vision, and playing those games, I always wonder why I can do like in real life and look behind myself without moving all my body around like a dumb stick.
What? I'm getting shot from behind?! Lets turn my body! Head's too stupid to look by itself...

That is what I use too Wrasse. I love my gamepad. I just hate remapping all the keys. That was one of the reasons I was turned off and wanted to play in single player mode so i could adjust as I went along until I got my groove.

Hey that looks pretty cool.... is it hard to remap it and establish profiles for different games? Any problems with it?

me too Mac...it always drives me nuts when I can't see my character in 3rd person, but I'm not sure how much of that is it helps me identify with the character or how much is it gives more pseudo-peripheral vision (plus it can be easier to swing the camera around and look behind me without losing track of which direction I was trying to run.)
Maybe when extra giant monitors are really cheap and we can have 3+ monitors for one game to add in that scenery to the sides...Maybe even monitors behind you, in a little room with a swivelly chair! (ok, maybe not...maybe I just like swivelly chairs.)

Hey that looks pretty cool.... is it hard to remap it and establish profiles for different games? Any problems with it? It's great, Aruth...I really recommend it although there is a bit of a learning curve. Once you have it down, it makes a difference IMHO. As far as mapping keys...it's very very simple...there is a program called Nostromo Profile Editor that allows you to map macros, keys or combinations for any button plus you can have alternate setups (3 in fact) by holding down any specified button you like to shift states. I bet I can share my old battlefield profile with you if you had one. Then you use the Nostromo Launcher to set which profile you wish to use with each game (this runs in your sys tray). I think you can find it cheap somewhere...maybe even for 20 bucks...I forget. The only thing that bothers me about it is the orange button above the d-pad is a bit hard to press...as is the button below...but even with these problems, I can't live without it. I'm still looking forward to a new version.
