I have been feeling the same way about the mmo scene. I really want to get into one like i did with DAOC but nothing has come out that holds my attention that long. The only thing that keeps me coming back to them are friends playing. That being said i have been having more fun with shooters lately and games where i can just pop in have a good time and then leave.

I know for me, I have short, irregular play times, so the actual gameplay has to hold my interest/be fun. Shooters are designed for the. MMO's often have gameplay (e.g. combat) that is simpler. So it is fun at first, but before long, you pretty much figure it out, and combat becomes the same old same old. And the monsters don't really change. Mostly they are the same old thing but with more HP and more damage. I think that's why we all burn out on mmo's so fast these days. Shooters have you playing against other humans, so no fight is predictable, which in turn makes it fun.
PVP in mmos usually means grinding through boring pve to get to the point where you can compete in pvp. But I can't take boring gameplay with the goal of "getting to the good stuff". The actual gameplay has to be fun throughout.

I just got an email from EQ2 about the introduction of "Battlegrounds". I know nothing, but suspect it is a pvp scenario sort of thing. Anyone know anything about this?

Oops, I missed that. Oh well. I guess that is one way to deal with level balancing.

Oops, I missed that. Oh well. I guess that is one way to deal with level balancing. How long does it take to get a character from level 1 to whatever the max level is in EQ2? I kind of find it dumb to force people to level up to endgame just to be able to get into some sort of structured PVP. Hate it or like it, in WoW, you can PVP starting at level 10. OK, you'll get pwned by the 19s, but who cares...

i played EQ2 during beta and for the first year it was out. I loved the game!! The only issue i have with it right now is im not sure if i want to be in a full fledged MMORPG. With SWTOR being the next big one i play, i dont want to be all burned out before hand. I want SWTOR to get all of my attention!!
