I absolutely love Justicar tanking! Healing as a Sentinel was enjoyable too, and healing as Justicar is surprisingly efficient, but very very tricky in the aggro sense (You aggro from DPS and healing. >.> It's a bit on an art.) and damn near impossible in PvP. (I tried, foolish me. XD)
Did you have any issues with going OOM every pull Kendou? I found that my mana pool dropped like a stone in a lake as a justicar tank.

Well, not every pull, but in prolonged battles my mana went right out the window, even with the precept that gives you some mana back with every Life based attack. I used a lot of potions. Justicar was pretty rough to use in invasions, as I would always pull aggro from a lot of mobs that weren't being handled properly, even with the Mien of whatever reduces threat.
As I said before though, the Inquisitor/Cabalist ranged DPS was a blast. I rarely went less than 75% of my mana, and it seemed to work really well blowing stuff to Helen Bach. I was looking on the soul planner, and it seems that my go-to spell combo, Decay and the Soul Bomb (whatever it was called) has either been added to the class in one of the patches, or just wasn't updated by the soul planner team.
Anyway, a great Beta experience, more free of bugs, and more polished, than the few games I have played at launch. It ran very smoothly for me, and though there were a few bugs, nothing game-breaking. I didn't try any PVP, so I have no idea how well or poorly balanced it was.
I have no remorse. You are food; I eat.

I managed to get back to town and installed in time for about 5 min of play. Oh well. I like that they have a bard. I hope it is a good class. I also like the steampunk look of the side I picked randomly.

Yes, the steampunk look to the Defiants is one of the many reasons I love them over the dogmatic and blind Guardians.
I am ready to play this game for keeps now. >.> Please do release now Trion?

tell me about it, i am in alpha and it drives me crazy trying to "not" play too much. I find myself playing along and all of a sudden I am like STOP this doesnt even count, but it is so much fun.

That's the key for me. I've played some mummorpuggers where you had to find the fun, and in Rift so far, there was too much fun to be had, so I had to decide which fun to have. I could go do some quests to get some gear, or I could fight off some invasion forces. Maybe during the quest a rift or an invasion would pop up and try to eat me, more successfully at some times than others. I did get two instances in, those were a lot of fun too, and each done in a different role, dependent on what the other members of the party want to/are able to do.
I'm not knocking the PVP, I never did get to try it, but that's not really my bag, baby. However, i like that I can switch roles to a build that is suited to it, and not feel that I'm trapped in a useless class for an entire chunk of the game(did someone mention Aion?).
I'd like to try out the PVP sometime, I have had fun with it at times in the past, mostly getting perforated in DAOC, thanks to the Nordic Healer Macarena dance that a stealthed bowman could see from three kilometers away. At least it wasn't like Aion where the outcome was never in doubt, and never any fun (except in some of the tower sieges, true).
Anyway, I'm definitely glad I pre-ordered, and will be eagerly awaiting the release. Are there any other beta events scheduled before then?
No, just as we must continue to do today, we adapt to what's currently interesting. Be it music, television plotlines, or 90% of the NFL tossing a wildcat formation into their playbook, despite the importance of being unique, you better make sure you aren't too far off the reservation or no one's going to care. Auto-tune those vocals, make the sitcom more about relationships, put three running backs out there, and you damn sure better get a gun in Dennis Quaid's hands before that movie is over with.

I imagine that they'll have atleast one true open beta, and dont forget that preorders get a full week of play ahead of the release date, so you could consider that a stress test.
Personally, I love tanking in this game. Reaver/Pally/Champ combo is impressive damage with awesome tanking. Dach, when you get the chance you should check out the void knight tree as well. Now THAT will be a blast in pvp.

Cool, thanks. I only tried the Distinguished Clergyman this time around, though I may try some of the other callings out later. I do usually play tanks or healers, so one thing I love about this systems so far is that I can do both without having to level multiple characters. I did like the ranged DD too, and that's a new experience for me. I get the feeling that the Inquisitor/Cabalist will get nerfed by the time the release version gets here; I felt way overpowered in the Darkening Deeps dungeon, but that may have been because we were accidentally crossing the streams.
So yes, I'll try some warrior tanking stuff too. I remember the Justicar and Shaman had a damage reduction talent each, that stacked to 10% of all damage reduced, total. Not too shabby, even for chain wearing priests.

I just mention the void knight because I remember your frustrations with pvp. The VK is designed to pretty much absolutely obliterate all casters. Lots of mana drain/extra damage for amount if mana drained and silences, ridiculous.
I personally plan to play a tank again. WAR soured me but reaver tanking is everything a chosen should have been.

I will definitely be a healer as my primary role, although I am going to experiment with the different souls before I decide. I will definitely be a ranged healer for PvP; I tried justicar in PvP but I got my butt handed to me every time. I'm toying with a Purifer/Warden build ATM.

Yeah, PVP for a pure physical tanking specialist like the Templar from Aion was terrible. They tried to make it clear in that game that if you wanted to PVP, you should have chosen one of their PVP classes, or be in a huge zerg group. I liked the limited amount of PVE in Aion, and the Inescapable Judgement mechanic was a welcome addition to a defenders bag of tricks. But it did not sustain: when the focus of the game is something your class was not really designed for, it's easy to feel left out, especially since I was.
Anyway, not the problem in Rift. I plan on the Cleric, though I may do some tanking or DD also, really looking forward to having all those options. Muwahahah!
A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools.

Absolutely! My starter souls will be Justicar, Druid and Purifier. That way I can be a healer, a DPS or a tank right off that bat! It's 3 flavors in one!

I'm especially excited, they did a good job or curing the healer shortage by giving them so much flexibility.

The closer release gets, and the more I experience the callings I am leaning toward Rogue or Mage. If I go Mage, my loadout would be: Necromancer/Warlock/Chloromancer. That way between roles I can go solo (Necro/Warlock), or group (Chloro/Warlock).
If I go Rogue, my loadout would be: Bard/Riftstalker/Ranger. Solo would be Ranger/Bard, while Group would be all Bard with a smidge of Riftstalker for survivability in large fights. Once I get the third role, I would throw a max Riftstalker build in for tanking. Overall I might go Rogue, since it seems to offer the most flexibility as a whole calling...depending on what you like I suppose.
