Hi there peeps,
Long time no speak... my fault, work has been a pita this last 6 months.
Anyways, myself and a handful (hopefully more) from Children of the New Sun are playing Rift too. Like many of you, we are on the Faeblight server playing Guardians. Our tentative plan was to just play Guardians in beta so as not to burn out on the initial content, and then switch to the Defiant at launch... but having seen many guilds I'm familiar with playing Guardians - I may have to rethink this if they're not planning on switching upon release.
Are you peeps staying with Guardians at launch?
For those of you who know me, my toons ingame (currently) are:
Kess - cleric (6) Andune - mage (15)
I hope to catch up with some of you tonight, or in the next event if our paths fail to cross later.

I am absolutely loving this game right now, but that trailer is terrible. I think they may have done this in-house. They should have paid out the money to have Blur Studios do it vz2.blur.com/workOh, and Hey Jay!

I'm glad they're extending this beta a day. I've been doing an experiment. Trying out as many combinations of classes and souls up to level 10. I've gone through 4 so far (including one from beta 4). This is really helping me weed out which ones to play come launch.
On to soul combination 5!

When you get to level 13, they let you start questing for the other souls in your calling. On my Mage, Cleric and Warrior I got all 8 souls by 14 or 15 (Since the quests that in currently in are stand-ins for epic quests).
Once you get to level 13, go to your respective main city. Once there, you will see many open quests on your mini map as you run around. Speak to the person with the soul designation as if they are a vendor.
Ex: Pazzolupo <Necromancer>
These people will give you quests in order to acquire those souls. These quests are essentially like this:
1. Talk to quest giver. 2. Participate in a rift, any rift (even showing up at the last second counts at the moment). 3. Activate quest item given to you. 4. Kill mob. 5. Activate other quest item. 6. Go back and learn soul. 7. Experiment once you have all 8 souls.
If there are rifts nearby the city, it should only take around 10-15 minutes from start to completion. I should note that you can only undertake one of these at a time though, so you need to invest a little time in doing them. But making you do rifts is leveling you at the same time too, so....no big.
Also, respecs and such from the class trainers are free in beta, in order to support such experimentation. Plus, once you get enough money you can run around sporting two at a time with the roles you can purchase. Anyway, try getting your favorite calling to 13, and doing that instead.
TL;DR - Get to level 13, do soul quests in the main cities

As a sidenote, on my 23 warrior they have charged me to respec, but not sure if that's just because of my level or if they changed it

Thanks for all that Paz. I didn't know I would be able to do that so soon and so easily.

Given what the devs have said in the past (I'll cite the Rift podcast here), I highly doubt you will be able to get them all at level 13 come release....although I would LOVE that.

Yeah, if I were on the development team I would have some epic quests set up to open the new souls. Also, I expect the levelling in general to go a bit slower than in the betas. I was in quite a few cluster humps trying to defend the major quest hub on the Guardian side, and got a lot of levels in an hour or so, say about 5. Then I spent the next day or so doing quests at a much lower level trying to get money and gear. I hope they start to offer more gear from the planar vendors, or more planar currency, from doing rifts. Maybe some calling-specific gear drops for us after contributing.
The two dungeons I've been in were great, very well done. Not all of the critters were epic, and that's a good thing; nothing makes you feel as heroic as mowing down legions of enemies, then taking on the leaders. I also got to tank the dungeon, which I've done before in numerous games, and serve as DPS/DOT/DD, which I've never done before, and that was a helluva good time! To all the aggro whores out there, I get it now. I did wait for the tank to pick up aggro before I started melting the enemies to necrotic slag, I highly recommend that tactic. Also, I did all of this with a Cleric, yay for multiple roles!
Any dogma, primarily based on faith and emotionalism, is a dangerous weapon to use on others, since it is almost impossible to guarantee that the weapon will never be turned on the user.
