I got that same "Fallout" feeling from playing the game. So far I'm just amazed.

I have noticed the noise of my character a few times, but I think it just lends to the feeling of getting spooked out and having to watch your back.
I LOVE the different plasmids and effects. The ice one looks awesome on your character's hand.

What went through his head when he did it the first time? You can see it in the demo, he just picks it up, and blammo.
I would be a little leary about an old needle I found in an overrun underwater city.

The only negative I have about the game so far is it closely follows System Shock 2 in how this story is developing...
The one big positive about the game is that it closely follows System Shock 2 in how this story is developing...
I've finally found a single-player game I can't wait to get back to.

I never played SS 2 (I know...I know)....so the story has been pretty intriguing so far.
I definitely feel some twists coming.
Minor spoiler question about the girls and Big Daddies.....
So...you guys harvesting or rescuing the little girls?

I chose the middle difficulty and it's been easy so far...so I'm rescuing them because it seems like the more difficult path considering you are not harvesting as much genetic material (Eve I guess)...anyway...rescuing. Plus, they're kids...I'm too nice...and it's cool when you rescue them. I can't imagine what the easy setting it like...I haven't played a FPS in a while but I'm leaving healing kits and such behind right now...still challenging...and I bet it gets more difficult now that I'm in the next stage (the one past the medical area). I've only played a bit...should get a lot more play-time this weekend.

I am on medium too. I have taken out about 3 Big Daddies and died once. Not too bad, plus dying is almost too forgiving.
I have read on boards that Easy is way too easy, with Big Daddies dropping in a few hits.
I have also read that Hard makes the game a lot more fun, with shootouts really requiring strategy.
I will try hard on the next play through.

Are you guys playing on xbox or pc? I have a hard time with shooters on the xbox (I'm a mouse/keyboard guy) but on the other hand, I just got a big HD tv...

I don't have an X-Box 360...yet. I think I died on the first big-daddy battle...forgot to heal myself up enough...and the big daddy was almost dead...was going to reset it and try again but, like you said, death is rather forgiving so I just continued.

Oh, I did forget, I died on the first Big Daddy. I was not expecting him to be that BA ;D
Now that I got me some mines I can plan out my attacks against them better. And I love using telekenesis against them.

I'm on the 360, and it looks like you definitely need to play through the game a couple of times since (supposedly) the endings vary based on your interaction with the Little Sisters.
I'm finding that the health kits get left behind if I use my plasmids regularly, but the further I get in the game the more it's balancing out. After the medical bay I'm no longer 1 shot killing the splicers in water, even with an upgraded electro-shock plasmid.
So far the coolest plasmid has to be the Big Daddy Mind Control... having one of those suckers on your side is just awesome.

I have that one but have not used it yet. How long does it last? And when it wears off, is the Daddy aggressive?

For those who bought Bioshock for the PC you might want to be aware that you can only install/activate the game on TWO installations, and after that, you won't be able to access your game.
One way to "reclaim" your game when you're done playing, you need to UNINSTALL it so you'll be able to install it in a future time. And don't wait before you're PC crashes, because you'll lose one install that way.
There's a big hoopla on the officials 2kgames.com forums about that.
SecuROM sucks.
The funny thing is, I bought the game on Steam and SecuROM is STILL on that version, even with the Steam layer of security. However, on Steam, you have 5 installs, unlike other Steam game where its unlimited (you can only be logged at one PC at a time).
