Man Winin, is there an MMO that you don't try? In all seriousness, I have only really seen screenshots, which looked nice.

I guess I could read up, but I will ask in case anyone knows.
Is ship-to-ship combat where a player controls an entire ship, or where you have a position on the ship, such as steering, or manning a gun?
It would be cool if you where actually a person on the ship and had to work with a team to make the whole thing work.

I'm not sure how the ship to ship combat works. I need to read up. I hear they entered a new round of beta, so I've been looking at it again. I think the best bet for a ship-based game would be to have it work solo, but work better with a team. In other words, have it so you can be captain and control everything at once, or have npc's do some functions, but if you have players manning the station, your ship will do better.
Otherwise, with each person = a ship, you get too many ships. Or if you need 8 people to run a ship, you get lots of captains in port "/lfcrew to man my ship"
I'm always on the lookout for something new and interesting. If a game looks like it will have novel gameplay, I'll sign up for beta or demo. I'm kinda burned out on the same old same old mmo. I like the idea of ships, but didn't like SWG's ships (too buggy for me) or EVE (nothing specific, it just didn't click with me). I am a sailor though, so the pirate ships look cool. Also, I'm a fencer. Yarrr.

Bleh. I hate that idea that you are the ship. I think what you said Winin would be a great idea, you could have NPC's do functions on the ship, but also have real humans. That would make it way more immersive than just making you control the whole ship as an entity.

Plus, I mean come on, a group is a bunch of people working together doing different roles. A ship needs a group of people all doing different roles. Why would you want to have 8 ships instead? Seems a no-brainer.

the more I read about this game, the more I see it as a EVE-sorta kind of game.

May wanna check out Darkfall, Winin. Unless something has changed that is exactly how their ship to ship combat is gonna work.

I've always wanted a pirate MMO. The genre itself has a lot of potential for an MMO I think. The problem is most pirate games I've played are pretty half-assed.
Has anyone seen the anime One Piece? Thats how a pirate mmo should be.. individual crews (guilds) roaming the seas gaining reputation and power. As the guild levels up you could get bigger ships or possibly a fleet of ships. Every guild could have their own customized pirate flag.. so when you see that ship on the horizon you can be like "oh SNAP! Its the dreaded CoT Pirates!!" That would be awesome.

Thanks for the heads up, Mal. I'll check out their site.
We used to play this old old Apple 2 pirate fencing game. Man, that was fun.
