Ok, not a tech guy here, so I'll try to get the symptoms down as I can. After the podcast recording last friday, my pc shutdown. After that, whenever I tried starting it, the automatic disk check would start, looking for errors on the disk-and it would never proceed to actually go through the process. I could pull the plug and interrupt the disc check, go to windows, and sometimes get into diagnostics. I eventually got it to run the disc check, and then it loaded into windows. Now, it will get all the way into windows, and then freeze up. I can still run a few diagnostics, I'm getting OFOO:065D and OFOO:075D error codes, and a message DISK_0 self-test read error.
I'll take it in somewhere on my day of and see what they can do for me, but has anyone got any ideas?
Oh, and I'm typing this on my netbook, while running yet another test on my behemoth.

I feel like I'm having a similar issue on a really old PC back home but sadly I'm on vacation so I can't verify it ><

Couple of ideas throwing around here...I'm no expert or anything.
1. It could be a hard drive failure. Though, that would not explain the random shutdown originally.
2. Windows may be corrupt and need a reformat.
3. The original shutdown *may* have been an overheating problem.
Have you noticed anything strange in the past before this incident?

The errors you are seeing are the Hard Drive's internal SMART system saying there's a problem. If you're seeing that, it's time to get a backup as soon as you possibly can. The freeze can be attributed to any number of things but generally they go hand in hand with problems of this nature. My guess is either windows went to write back to a bad sector or read the bad sector (bad data) into memory and it caused some sort of error. As far as backups go, it's always going to be sketchy with a bum drive. My recommendation is to quit with the diagnostic utilities and back things up in the order of more important to less important. The more you access the bad stuff, the more likely it is to be angry with you so best to have everything saved off. Once the backups are set, i'd go run to Frys or Best Buy and grab a new drive and reload from scratch. If you want to chat through any of this later I'll be available after ~10pm PST. -Fuzz (Saia's BF)

Thanks for the advice folks. The problem was that after loading into windows, I could not do anything at all. It would simply freeze up. I did take it Best Buy, and now it's working alright. I just need to get all my drivers reloaded, and everything should be fine.
Thanks again!
