I think most of this is new. pc.ign.com/articles/109/1093029p1.htmlNotice this part We give the players the option to join one of three factions in the game and the storylines you will encounter from them will be very differentWonder if that only applies to the single player content, or if there is any chance of that meaning three PvP sides as well..............

Well everything I have heard indicates that the PvP breakdown will not be along these 3 PvE factions (or even which of the 5 races you choose for your toon) but will be based off your choice of server or "world"... you will see lots more references to WvW in the upcoming hype. As for how many different servers will get matched up against each other on a single WvW battlefield, or even HOW the matchup(s) will be made, is all conjecture at this point. I am a bit concerned actually about how easy/difficult it will be to move toons from one world to another in GW2, they need to make it as easy as possible IMO, ideally being something you can do on the fly in-game (much like the Luxon/Kurzick faction choice from GW1). But they need to balance that with some sort of mechanic to make players loyal to a specific world to motivate them to fight for it in WvW. And if none of this makes any sense to you I understand, this will be nothing like the RvR most of you are accustomed to ;D

I realize it won't be like RvR.
What you describe does sound interesting, I haven't really read about that breakdown. I noticed some of the faction stuff in GW1, but didn't get too involved in it. I am definitely for some way of sorting people out. If you just have pvp broken up into teams, you lose that sense of community and 'us' versus 'them'.

Yes, the factions from GW1 are probably one of the single most controversial things about that game. I mean, I realize why ArenaNet did it, they felt they had to compete with the whole Alliance vs. Horde type breakdown, but it was always a MUCH more blurry line between the factions in GW1. For example, my guild was Luxon and I usually PvPed as one, but I decided to make one of my toons a Kurzick to see their storyline... and if I REALLY wanted to fight as a Kurzick (against my own guildmates even!) all I had to do was send a tell to anyone on my friends list who was in a Kurzick guild and have them send me a guest pass to their Guild Hall, then talk to the Kurzick Lieutenant there and off I went to fight against my guildys... while taunting them in the guild chat channel of course So I am expecting WvW in GW2 to be much the same way... more casual, like "shooting each other up in TF2" casual. And when it's time to change servers in GW2, my instinct tells me we are going to be looking for the in-game pulldown bar to make the switch, just like changing from Poeta Channel 1 to Poeta Channel 2 in Aion... and that guilds will not be confined to a specific server either. But again, this is all speculation on my part, nothing else
