On April 11, 2007, BlightedEmpires.com was registered by Peter J. Wilsey, who registered other ArenaNet websites. Guild Wars 2 was announced only two weeks earlier. On March 12, 2009, the domain name was refreshed.

It's kind of sad that this article makes up the single biggest chunk of information I have found out about GW2 in about a year. It really is almost a total news blackout from NCSoft about the game...

And one of the commenters repeats what I have thought all along, that the blackout is in part due to NCSoft wanting all hype to focus on Aion. In fact, I don't see much on these forums about Aion, and since I'm playing the beta, I should probably make a separate post...
