So my computer died. My new system is small and silent. This is due to the fact that my gaming room has now become the baby's room. I need a new graphics card for this smaller system. I have been staring at low profile cards on amazon for like 2 hours. Can't make up my mind. Any ideas for a low proflie card? Rift does run without a card, but it is not the same beutiful world I left a few weeks ago when my gaming computer died.

I've been looking at the Sapphire Radeon HD 5570 - 1 GB DDR3 and the ASUS GeForce GT430 1 GB DDR3. I would be willing to spend more than these, but there really just isn't that much selection.

I've been looking at the Sapphire Radeon HD 5570 - 1 GB DDR3 and the ASUS GeForce GT430 1 GB DDR3. I would be willing to spend more than these, but there really just isn't that much selection. Hey Tony, I did some research too just now and found the same thing you did, that the 5570 and 430 are pretty much the state of the art in terms of low profile cards. You really don't have much other choice, there is a huge dropoff in performance after these two. Here's a performance comparison of the two cards. You'll see that the 430 theoretically comes out ahead but only slightly, you probably wouldn't be able to tell the difference between the two cards in practice. Plus they are the same price so we can't use that to decide either. So the decision really comes down to some other factors outside of performance... what brand of on-board graphics are on your motherboard? If you have Radeon on-board then it's a no-brainer to get the 5570... if your on-board is Intel however then Nvidia may be a better choice because their cards are more versatile at other chores besides gaming (as I mention over in the other thread in this forum), stuff like home theater, science/engineering apps, and games that are heavy on physics/collisions. Hope this helps, -Adam

Yeah, there really aren't many options. I should have researched the graphics card issue some more before my computer purchase. I just assumed there would be more options than this. Thanks

Thanks Good news... looks like there will be another option for you that should be showing up for sale any day now... the Radeon 6670. It's a solid step up from the 5570 and 430, so if you can wait just a little longer and scan Newegg/Amazon every day it will be well worth it. Just be sure to get it with 1GB of RAM and not 512MB -Adam
