Alright, so many of us are DAoC vets. Many of us have *diamond* quality memories of rvr experiences in pvp. They are just like fish stories, you enjoy telling it over and over, and with each telling it becomes slightly more epic.
One of my concerns for a long time has been; Will I ever play another game that can foster more memories of that caliber?
Along comes Aion, after watching a couple pvp vids I began noticing something very...familiar. As if I had been there before! But no seriously, the combat reminded me a lot of the crown jewel of my MMO experience!(slightly biased as it was my first MMO).
Up until fairly recently, every notion about why I would enjoy this game was centered around one thing, the combat.
Well, it didn't take long for Aion to deliver. This just happened so I felt the need to rush to the boards to write it all down while it's fresh. Here goes.
I was returning to my grinding spot in the abyss, as i was hoping to get to the halfway mark before I logged for the night. Anyways as I was coming up to the spot, I noticed that an asmo ranger had jumped a cleric, and was doing pretty good. So I opened up on the ranger, after a short chase and a nice stun shot crit, he was dead. However, right as he fell two more Asmodians were headed my way fast, so immediately I turned tail to run. Problem was, I was low on flight time! So I was forced to land. However, one of the Asmodians was a templar, and i was in ranger of his leash spell. The other that was with him was a chanter. So they started beating on me, and Rangers are pretty squishy, so I figured I was dead. Out of spite however, I targeted the chanter and slept him( Yeah, I used to be that warlock who threw a dot on everything around him before he died.) However, 2 seconds had passed and still I was alive!, further more, I had full health 0_o. Surprised I turned and began to kite the templar, but I couldn't burn him down before the chanter came out of the sleep. He healed the templar then proceeded to beat on me, trying to burst me down then kill this other healer (i still had no idea where he was). However, he managed to keep me alive for what seemed to be pretty easily, so the chanter and templar decided to switch to him. I was firing on the Chanter(timing my silence arrow as best i could but it's difficult to really make it a death sentence because heals are still so powerful.) Anyways they were starting to wear the (now i see) Cleric down. Right as he was getting close, and I mean he had like 30% health, this Elyos raid comes swooping in and wipes them easily for us, saving us both.
Wow! Did that just happen? The raid took off almost immediately, seemingly dutifully after briefly asking if we wanted a spot in a group. When we didn't illicit a response within 5 seconds, they were gone as quickly as they came.
So we're sitting there talking about it right? Laughing, grateful we made it through that, then BAM asmo raid that was hunting and following the Elyos raid comes in and just obliterates me and the cleric.
Sitting here at the Obelisk regenning my health, i can't help but think, well hot damn, there is hope.
