Man, I'm really trying to show some restraint while reading all these blog entries I've missed over the last few days. Ton's of Aion hate from people who have mostly not even played the game. Lots of finger pointing at the queue problem "AHA see, not so big now are ya". It's rediculous, and sad

Sounds like a good topic for a blog entry!
MMO's seem to be in a strange place. People get so attached to what game they play or have enjoyed. And to a lot of people, there is only enough room for a few MMO's to succeed, so they hope that certain ones fail.
While the queue situation is a bummer, imagine how much worse this all could be? Imagine huge queue's, a severely unstable experience once you are in game, and a shitty game on top of it!
The queue's will go away, the bad ass game that this appears to be will continue.

I was going to, but the problem is that most would scoff that I'm just being a fanboi, and then the usual arguments would be applied. Sure, yeah, I am being a fanboi, because I am enjoying the game. I agree, people get stuck on their game of choice and quite often throw rotten tomatoes at any others for whatever reason. Most of those in our corner of the blogosphere are currently playing something. Whatever they may be playing, they don't see any reason to check out Aion because there's not enough here for a change. So, they'll be quick to point out any problems that came up in order to reassure their descisions. We, on the other hand, have been between MMO's for some time, so we are relishing in the game for all its greatness. Plus, look at what we're comparing it to. A game that ended up being broke as hell. Not a hard sell at all hehe.

The first month is bad for every game. How they deal with the problems and how it is in the second month are what count towards long termedness.
I agree with the CAD guy that it seems pretty linear (defined set of quests in this area, then go to next area and repeat, then to next area, etc instead of a big world with stuff to explore and more than one place to be), but it is what it is. Maybe that will help me stick with one char instead of playing lots of alts to see the world. And I'm hoping that it opens up with more options of where to hunt at higher levels.

I sometimes lurk around the boards at MMORPG.com or other such sites, but usually when I've done something that merits such punishment. I've been trying to punish myself with alcohol a bit less nowadays, as my liver isn't getting any younger and neither am I.
The biggest thing I get from these posts is nostalgia for the smacktardedness of the idiots from WoW's Barrens Chat. Much like general or world chat in most online games, I tend to avoid it like Jehovah's Witnesses. Which means, I dive behind the furniture and pretend they don't exist. Metaphorically speaking, of course; in game, I just click on the combat or guild/legion chat.
those of you who still have arms and legs, take them and go. but if you've lost some, leave them. they're mine now.

Have you listened to the latest Channel Massively podcast? They really seem to have a hate on for Aion and take many shots at it (specifically the server queues) throughout the podcast. Ironically they also read an e-mail attacking bloggers who slag games they've barely played... and then proceed to bash Aion some more.
They would likely say the same to us about Champions Online which is a favorite of theirs.
It all comes back to your post about the subjectivity of reviews, and how the half-assed reviews are a nice way to frame a review without being too cynical or condescending.

Slurm could you write up an article about this issue and we could just send it around to every blog/podcast that has covered a game. ever?
an Internet guide to creating objective discussion content and statements aka, how not to be a douche when you're in the creative process?
please? for me? i mean, you totally skyrocketed to internet fame from MMOW9. So, can we do a scratch my back i'll scratch yours?

I posted a comment on their website about it and I don't think they really understood my point. It sounds like they'll be addressing it in the next podcast... should be interesting.

hehehe!! The first FuzzyAuzzy. congrats! its like a status symbol. I've got my eye on the next target... but its a podcast that might have podfaded. need to wait a bit and see if the effort would play out. I think im going to get increasingly elaborate until the point where i'd have to hypnotize 10,000 people into thinking they are chickens and then having them swarm Massively.com's HQ. That is when i will truly know success.
