So I was dicking around on my computer and set a .exe file to open in notepad, just to see what the code looked like. Upon doing that I inadvertently made it so that every .exe on my system is opened up using notepad. Lucky for me I know how to navigate my way around regedit and managed to delete my mistake with notepad. However, all of my .exe icons remain as notepad document icons. They work, they're just unidentifiable.
I should also point out that upon going to manually change the icons for each individual .exe file the icon selector is already positioned over the original icon and has it selected, but when I hit apply it remains as the notepad's icon.
Anyone know how to fix it?

Nevermind, they just decided to randomly fix themselves.

Don't you know that the filetype gnomes come out at night to fix things like that?

Are the filetype gnomes anything like the underpants gnomes?
