I read this yesterday and it really got the wheels turning in my head. If they can deliver on these promises, then it will likely have a serious impact on the MMO scene. It does almost sound too good, but I was talking about it with my significant other and we figured that the dymanic events might go in a rotation. Like, ogres come to destroy a town - win and the town stands, lose and it falls. Second event would be the townspeople attempting to take that town back - win and they get it back, lose and the ogres are still in control. Rinse and repeat? We're probably totally off base, but still, it sounds so kick ass and I'm totally hyped for this game.

I'm glad the GW2 developers are finally pushing some new information out after what was an almost total news blackout for all of 2009. The game is certainly nothing if not ambitious... they could have just added some simple tweaks to the game and kept all of their existing fanbase regardless, but they have decided to go for broke and attempt to take leadership in the MMO genre. I actually logged into GW1 for an hour last night and chatted with guildys there... some interesting statements from them about GW2: "A.net isn't making GW2 to compete with SW:TOR or any of the MMOs out now, they are trying to compete with Blizzard's future unannounced MMO" "I'm sad that there is no dedicated healer class announced for GW2, it's all self-heals" "It looks like they are really focusing on PvE in GW2, I'm concerned PvP options will suffer" "I'm glad it's the same engine, I really wasn't looking forward to building a new PC just to run GW2"

Actually, I think they covered it one of their interviews. I think the Eurogamer one. It won't go in rotation. If the outpost/city is conquered by the enemy NPC, the players will have to get them out. The place won't reset like in typical WAR public quest each 15 minutes. www.eurogamer.net/articles/guild-wars-2-dynamic-events-interview?page=1

I suppose that rotation was probably the wrong word This article is full of awesome tidbits so thank you for sharing! It sounds like dynamic events will be the core of the persistent experience, while the more familliar instanced world of Guild Wars will be reserved for the personal story...really exciting stuff.

More on the Dynamic Events system: www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/game/473/feature/4235/Guild-Wars-2-Dynamic-Events-Interview.htmlI never played GW. But the Dynamic Events sounds good. There was a beta in some failed MMO of which I can't recall the name. But they did something sort of like this, but only for limited, special events. I always thought that was a neat idea. I'm pretty much over reading the wall of text for quests myself. I prefer the presentation of story like Mass Effect or Dragon Age. It's more immersive for a game. If I want to read, I'd rather read a book.

This sounds like so much fun.
Would anyone be up for a regular weekly GW1 night? So many of us own it, and it would be fun to have a reason to get together.

I would certainly be up for it... all of the things that keep us apart in other MMOs (different servers, different factions, different level ranges, and monthly fees) are simply not a factor in GW1. Don't forget that you can unlock GW2 fluff by doing things in GW1... it was always part of the plan for me to come back to GW1 for a few months once a firm release date for GW2 was announced, so I could work on that type of stuff. What is the best weekday for this... how about (the former TF2) Tuesdays? Anyone who meets me in Tyria next Tuesday night at 10PM Eastern gets a free ugly-ass minipet from my vast collection along with some leftover junk food from last year's Dragon Festival I'll be on my Warrior/Ritualist, "Biff The Merciless".

say WHAAAA? I might load it up if I have time this weekend, I think I have all but maybe the last expansion. I don't even remember what class I played... I think I'd be up for a weekly group, but I wouldn't get on until just after 9pm EDT and I would have to get off (hot) by 11

An exact list of what can be moved over is still undecided, but we do know for sure that character name reservations will be part of it. And if you'll be on at 9PM Tuesday Slurms, I can log on then. As for what we're actually gonna DO, um, lemme log into the game tonight or later this weekend to reorient myself and find something for the MP crew to work on

Gives me time to put the munchkin to bed. As for what to do, maybe we could start some fresh characters and take it from there?

I'm not too keen on starting a new toon unless it is an insta-20 for running PvP. I still have a TON of things to do on my existing five PvE 20s (including lots of content for my 20s to run with others in the sub-20s). Tops on my list of things to do: 1) Run new campaigns with my existing toons. Run Prophecies content with my Factions toons, Nightfall content with my Prophecies toons, etc. I've done very little of this... but am up for just about anything depending on what campaigns everyone has. 2) "Hard Mode" content which I have never tried, if any of you have PvE 20s. 3) PvP - everyone rolls an insta-20 to run either 4v4 scenario premades or "Skirmish" type duels amongst ourselves

I'd love to jump in with this. I've got a level 20 that I haven't played in years as well as a level 18 and a few lower levels I've been messing around with lately.
I don't have Eye of the North, but it looks like that's going to be a must have if I want to take anything into GW2.
Tuesdays might not work for me but if that's the day chosen I will try to make it.
