I don’t think I told y’all about our recent uninvited guests.
For a couple weeks we kept hearing this scratchy noise up in the ceiling in the corner of our room. We originally thought it was on the outside of the house, in the gutter. It was a really really soft scratching, but once I heard it I wasn’t able to fall asleep. It was terrible. Ab went up there and all he could see were bees. So we let off a bee-bomb in our attic. A day went by and no scratchy. Then the next day, scratchy scratchy scratchy. It got so bad that we slept in the basement on the pull out bed down there just so we could get some sleep.
So Ab was going to let off 2 bee-bombs and I begged him to call a professional. Our attic entry is tiny and I was worried that if he went up there and they swarmed him, he wouldn’t be able to get out of there fast enough. Finally he agreed and called. The guy came and sprayed and no more scratchy noise! He even showed Ab the queen! The bug-guy said they were yellowjackets. He said if they had been carpenter bees (yes, there is such a thing) we wouldn’t have even heard them but yellowjackets are really noisy when they chew through wood and stuff. The guy said we called just in time. Another 10 minutes they would have been through the ceiling and swarmed our house. He wasn’t exaggerating either! When I got home, the paint was bubbled and it was cracked. They were all the way to the paint and had almost gotten through.
I ran into my friend on campus and she was with another one of her friends who I hadn’t met and I started to tell them about the scratchy and the girl I didn’t know said “are you talking about bees?” She had the exact same thing happen to her just a couple weeks ago only they did get through and swarmed her room. She had to call a professional too but it was a huge mess because she had to have her room sprayed. She said she must have sucked up 400 dead bees in her shop-vac. She was lucky enough to not have been in the room at the time they got through.
