What are people playing, and what platform do you use? I have PC and Xbox 360, and I own BF 2142 (PC), Team Fortress 2 (PC), Unreal Tournement 3? (Xbox 360), and Halo 3? (Xbox 360).
I'm looking for some good old fashioned sit down and kill people kinda games to play. War is fun, but sometimes I just want to frag bozos. I prefer PC games, but I'm warming up to console controls.

I'm not currently playing any multiplayer FPS games, just single player ones (Fallout3 and Dead Space).

Left 4 Dead is great. It is isn't traditional though. One mode has you and 3 people trying to get from point A to point B, fighting computer controlled zombies along the way. The game is dynamic, with an AI 'director', which changes up the spawn rates and positions of the zombies on the fly. It really does it well, creating tense situations that keeps the game fresh.
It also has a mode where you and human controlled players go against enemy zombies, with real life players filling the roles of the super-zombies. There are several different zombie class types. After the round, the teams flip sides. I have it for the PC.
It is really a great game if you play with other people.
Also, my brother is really enjoying Call of Duty: World at War. He loved CoD4, and really likes this one and it's WWII setting. It has the leveling up system from CoD4. I hope to get it for Xmas for the 360 since that is what my brother plays it on.

I have heard good things about the new COD and loved COD4. Might give that one a shot and we can get the old gang together again. I gotta get all my shooters on the xbox from now on. My comp can't handle it and I still suck at the mouse aiming. Plus my headset for xbox is way better. Lemme know how that one is. We should all find a good game and meet up and play CoT style. COD is a great one for that. Lots of options and rolling as a group is very effective.

For shooters, I think I like the WW2 setting best, so COD sounds good. I'm not a big zombie/horror guy, but it does sound interesting.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is probably the best FPS I've ever played. I got all the way to the 8th prestige before classes finally started taking preference.
I don't like the WWII setting anymore, it's been done so much.
We need more current war games, like Modern Warfare. The guns and their abilities in this day and age are just scary.
Plenty of WWII games, plenty of futuristic war games.
Very, very few modern warfare games.

I am ok with WW2/Nam movies, but the games are I want screaming jets. I loved the helicopter flying overhead raining death. Airstrikes ruled. Dogs sound cool though. We have such awesome armaments nowadays why the hell would you want a flintlock with a dagger on it? lol I loved the little dagger flick out in COD4. First time I did that to someone I cackled with glee so hard I nearly choked.
