So I am off today. It is pouring down rain and I think, well today is a good day to get in some Beta play time. But instead, I find I have run into a problem with the audio on my computer. Everything was fine on Wednesday of this week. I logged into the computer this morning and had no audio. Not with windows media, games, or even the start up sounds of windows. So I checked under my hardware and get the following error: Windows cannot initialize the device driver for this hardware. Code 37. It lists the Soundblaster under the hardware tab but gives me that error code. There is a yellow exclamation mark by this at some other point. Under volume it states I have no audio device and Window Media tells me it can't play audio because I have no audio device. So I uninstalled and reinstalled drivers from the website. Still no luck. I was already using the up to date drivers. I unistalled again and reinstalled from disc. Still nothing. I restored Windows to Wednesday when everything was working fine. No luck. Any thoughts on what I need to do to fix this? Thanks Oh, I have Windows XP. Audio is Soundblaster X-Fi xtreme audio.

Did you try moving it to another PCI slot? Maybe something is wonky with your mobo. Did you do any mobo updates/patches? Other than that I have no clue unless your card is fried. You might want to try puttingit in another system if you have one available, just to test.

Could be some IRQ setting (is this even still an issue anymore...been so long since I diagnosed a PC issue like this) or an issue with your card. Do you have an on-board sound card? Has you computer shut off recently due to a storm or anything? I'm just curious if maybe your bios settings changed (reset due to a power outage or some other problem) and maybe your on-board sound is now enabled as a default or some other feature is turned on/off. Something similar has occurred on one of my machines. Good luck!

forums.creative.com/creativelabs/board/message?board.id=soundblaster&message.id=105996&view=by_date_ascending&page=1 Heres a thread from creative, sounds like there just as confused as everyone else. As a PC Tech i would try it in another PC as mentioned above. If you dont have that option try another card in your PC. Sounds like an issue with the card to me. Someone mentioned in the creative form that it seemed to him it happend when he did a windows critical update. If thats the case your getting into comprimising the working and security state of your OS. Prob just get another card. IMO.

Wow, thanks for that link. I had searched but missed it. So I have it working again... I suspect that the issue is indeed related to windows. I restored to an even earlier point than previous, uninstalled and reinstalled again and now it is working. I had a similar problem in the past that was in fact related to one of Window's notorious updates. I don't have the updates automatically installed so I am not sure how that would happen this time though. My vote is for gremlins in my computer on Microsoft's payroll...
