I know it's not for everyone and that's okay, but talking to Slurm yesterday made me realize people don't know the basics...

Basics like, it's free! FREE! You could buy an early-access pack. You can sub if you want, but you don't have to. You can play for free. Yes, there are benefits to paying. Is it a game that forces you to pay eventually? I don't know. I'm probably going to sub so I don't care.

Land has been claimed. Frustrating.... oh how could they not have seen this coming... But this is not a big deal. You have to be a patron (monthly subscriber) in order to own land. Anyone with an founders pack is considered a patron right now. After a month - three months, I suspect there will be lots of land becoming available as patron status changes. If you're not planning on paying or playing that long, then why do you care? I have a cottage sitting in my inventory. I'll be waiting to place it.

I highly recommend joining an organized group. I'm really enjoying Greymoon Trading Company (Server: Naima). They've organized a neighborhood for housing and farming. They run organized protected Trade Routes. They have dedicated crafters and gatherers and farmers collecting for the guild. I gave them my first small farm to use as they needed. I don't farm it at all. They never require that you do anything in game that you don't want to do, but the atmosphere is very "support the guild" and then the guild is able to support you. They're very strict about being a respected guild, and I really like that.

I found a decent mining area last night and I hope to hit that again tonight and send a nice package of stone off to our guild collector to distribute as needed.

You can also have families. Aberrant and I are not currently in the same guild but we linked each other as family. Doing this allows us to change the permission on our farms and we can both use each other land. There's probably additional benefits. I'm still learning.

I hit 18 last night and I really need to gather up the courage to do my first Trade Run. I know GTC will help me but I'm a bit intimidated. I need to do it so I get over it. I really want to end up focusing on being security for Trade Runs so the sooner the better.

And of course I didn't remove my authenticator before my phone died on me and had to be replaced. Now I get to try and wait for customer service before I can even download the game ... fun times.

It really is great. It's like EVE Online in that you can make the world a very Wild West out in PvP Zones, or if that's not your jam you can just hang out with friends and enjoy PvE. Definitely come play on Naima, so far I've only met one guild that's full of asshats (not counting mine of course. :3)

Finally got in around 10:15pm after being in queue for around 3 hours.

I'm a freebie so I have no complaints. In fact, hearing from Maric via twitter that subs get in without queue may have sold them a months worth of sub time from yours truly. Not because I was blown away by the game in the 20 minutes I played before succumbing to sleep, but because there's no way I'll stick around to see if I like the game if I have to wait in queues every night.

Maybe that's what their plan is! *turns off conspiracy theory machine*

Good news: I didn't instantly hate the game!

The feel of character controls are very make or break for me. I joked with Scarybooster on twitter that "if I don't like the way my character runs I'm fucking done with ArcheAge" but that's almost true. If it doesn't feel right, it doesn't feel right.

Anyone else think it sort of feels like FFXIV?

I had a conversation with a random passerby regarding the sapling I planted in the middle of a road. I thought maybe it would bring up a targeting reticle or ghost image of the tree before I planted it, but NOPE. Right click = tree!

She was actually helpful and explained that it was fine as long as I stayed there long enough to harvest it, blah blah blah.

And then I went to bed.

The thing that has me very excited early on though: the class mixing. I can make my shadow knight/reaver class and that puts tingles in my trousers.

Slurms subs have a queue but priority. I've never waited more than 10 minutes.

Yes the class variety is unmatched and one of the better design elements of the game.

I jumped into the free people queue at around 6pm and at 9pm I was still 1200 people deep.

So, I went ahead and paid for a month so I can at least enjoy myself while this is the hotness. I figure even if I only stick around for a week, I've spent far more than 15 bucks and been disappointed by a game. Hell, I bought Brink on launch day.

I hopped back in and the queue for subs was at 700 people. Still had to wait for about 45 minutes, but I sort of expected it given that I was getting on at the primest of prime times. This should mean that I'll actually get to play for reals tonight!

But I did get a horse this morning! So that's a thing in my life right now.

Just saw this! Do you need Raw Stone or Stone Brick? I have like 16 stone brick I can send you.
