Yes I realize this game is OFN, but my dad won a copy and gave it to me. I just installed and started to dink with it last night. It seems ok so far, as far as RTS's go. Was just curious if any of you have played and tried the online mode?

The demo videos look really good. I'm not big on RTS's though. I don't like the resource gathering and building part so much. And I don't like micromanaging my troops.
How is it for that?

I like it so far, but I have only played the tutorial boot camps and the first two scenarios in the single player game. The last RTS I spent any significant amount of time with was Warcraft3, so I can't really compare it to any modern ones. Resource gathering is a part of it, like any other RTS, but there are some twists....like you have to capture resources in contiguous zones, and any resource outposts that get disconnected no longer provide you with resources. So thats their way of implenting supply lines. Seems like there is more strategy involved than with the Warcrafts, as things like cover and flanking are important to success. Your troops can get pinned down, suppressed, etc if caught out in the open. The graphics are very good. Looks and runs great with everything maxxed out. Kinda neat that you can zoom wayyyy into the battle as its raging...to the point where it almost looks like a first person shooter or an rpg. Kinda funny when you hear one of your troops drop the F bomb for the first time. I was shocked, then I noticed the M for Mature on the box cover Surprisingly, there doesnt seem to be a way to turn it off.

It looked very cinematic. If I wasn't swamped, I'd give it a shot. I have to get some good module making experience under my belt, so I'm focusing on NWN2. I do love WW2 games though. And the Dawn of War demo was fun.

I played it all the way thru - it's an awesome game! Actually, I still have it installed on my comp... just couldn't bring myself to uninstall it yet, haven't played it in months and months but still.

Sorry to necro the thread, but I got this game last week. I was in a Target and saw the Game of the Year edition for $20. Some trouble with micromanagement, but the troops seem pretty smart, so I don't have ot worry about them too much.
I'm in mission 4 (defend the town you just captured).
Has anyone played it is Multiplayer? Co-op would be fun.

does the multi work now? there was so many problems with it at launch I never bothered.
I would be down for some co op or some massive PvP if you all wanted.
It's not a bad game, just didn't really grab me as unique with RTS games and I'm kinda getting tired of em.

I assume it works, but I haven't tried it. People talk about it on the forums though. I'm not a real fast clicker, and I haven't played a rts since Warcraft 2. But I like WW2 games and this has a good feel. I like capturing strategic points instead of sending peons out to mine and deforest.
It reminds me of BF 1942 (which I loved).

yea I kinda like the capture points. never really played BF games, got a good comp too late lol.
This game isn't too fast on the clickies cept for rockets/nades. But I was never that good either hehe.
Just some good fun. and you can't be the axis on single player, have to be allies. So it's nice to swap sometimes.
