Wow, do you ever have one of those moments where you walk into a conversation and the most weird time? Happens to me a lot. ahem ;} While I can appreciate the need to feel feminine, I strongly believe that notion comes in many forms and interpretations. In making the sylvari and female charr, I tried to open the breadth of what details say. As many of you may have read in the articles, the sylvari are plants, but they do have a small chest. The reason a plant has imitation chest is because it is imitating a human. The breasts aren’t real (and no, you would not find nipples ;} heh), but they are there for a specific purpose. In the options, I have made sure to have curvy for those who want curvy and as small as I can get them without breaking the model properties. The normal map prevents it from going completely flat chested, but I managed an ‘A cup’. So why would you have a mammal with no mammary protrusions? Yes, it was discussed internally if we needed to make a catgirl. We know there’s a market for it, and to some extent, it’s what folks may expect. But that never sat quite right. We wanted to make the charr females feel just as competent and just as fierce as their male counterparts. Size matters. We made them large and fanged and clawed and aggressive. But in this is the opportunity to add femininity without old tropes. A sylvari may have breasts because it is nature trying to look human. The charr have evolved with no such mandate. If you put on a charr female some of the more female styled world armor—and world armor WOULD happen—this discord is even more apparent. A fierce cat-demon in a miniskirt doesn’t strike fear into the hearts of its enemies. In designing them, I made sure she has to be every bit a charr, every bit as fierce and sleek as she wants to be. We tried to figure this into all realms of her for what we have done and what we will do. The only thing we couldn’t really get around was avoiding the chest wrap underwear. It’s not a bra, it’s not covering breasts, but the gaming world isn’t really ready for the notion of topless with our current rating. ;} I know that all the merits I listed for some may still have nothing to do with a chest, and for the reasons you list, I agree. I really do. It shouldn’t matter if a female has breasts or not. But alas, in games of this day and age, boobs on a catgirl are still boobs on a catgirl. And for once in the laws of game design, I’d like the merit of a charr female not to be visually weighed on the size of her chest, but the size of her battle. For those that must have them, picture them under the fur if you must… none or six.
