Hey guys - thought you might like this bit of fun trivia concerning an aspect of SWTOR's game design. A buddy of mine in St. Louis worked for a small game company. (Simitronics, I think?). They went to E3 a couple times - not sure if they still do. Anyway my friend is a .NET programmer. He, and the company, we're designing an MMO game engine for one of their games. They ended up selling it to Bioware (I think this would have been around 5 years ago?). My friend actually was flown out to the handoff to "teach the Bioware guys" how his code worked. He didn't design all of it (of course!), but he did do some particulars: The water effect that you see when you stand in water and then walk through it? My friend created that code! He also recognized other features from their engine - the way that the grass appears to sway (as on Alderann), the trees. He also said that they were just starting to work on automated travel through the live map (via taxis) that rendered the world as you flew through it. He said that one of the developer tools that Simitronics created was a very cool interface that allowed devs to log into the world, together, and implement code on the fly, without having to compile. They patented this, apparently. Anyway, I thought it was super cool to get the lowdown on this. And that a friend of mine actually had hands on history with this awesome game!

The water effect is some of the best I'be seen.
