I logged into the SWTOR tonight, played for about 5 minutes then heard the video card fans max out, screen froze then went to blue screen. I've spent the last 3 hours trying different solutions, combing threads, checking driver updates and still can't get past the character selection screen.
I'm running two ATI Radeon HD 4800's in Crossfire. I have heard of various ATI issues but to just happen like this at a weird time, no patches, no updates. Game ran fine yesterday. UGGGHHH!!!
It's late and I'm getting cranky and needed to vent, lol.
I'll try calling Doghouse Systems tomorrow. Although this does not sound like a hardware issue, their customer service is second to none and they will most likely be able to help or provide some insight and other solutions to try.
I'd like to hear if anyone else had similar issues and could provide some help.
**EDIT** After posting this I ran sfc /scannow and cleaned repaired any issues with the hard drive. I logged into the game this morning with no issues. Which would make believe it could have been a hard drive issue.

If you are already fixed this won't help you, but i found it to be a good general trouble shooting step.
If you are getting a BSOD from windows (blue screen of death) then somewhere on the page it will say something like Critical Stop 0x0000008E. That number varies depending on what windows tried to access and failed at. So if you write down the exact number, and plug it into a google search, it will usually give you an idea of what caused the crash, and where to look to fix it. It's a not perfect solution, frequently the microsoft explanation is something really general like "a driver" didn't respond, which doesn't tell you which one, but at least then you can focus on driver updates instead of checking hardware.

Thanks Trapsinger. I did not know that and would have found it useful. I played for a good 3 hours this morning with no issues. I called Doghouse Systems anyway and they had me run a hard drive diagnosis, no issues. Strange.
I am not computer savvy. I know enough to be dangerous, which I know is dangerous. But another strange thing occurred. I was also having issues with my cd/dvd reader not recognizing the disk, we figured out it was a bad driver and through the process of removal I had to clean up my registry a bit. Now, the time it takes for the SWTOR loading windows has been cut in half. Which is making me think that three years of crap has gummed up the works. I have the same issues as all of you... install a game, delete a game, install a game, delete a game, you know the routine. Is it a good idea to just wipe the slate clean and start over from time to time?

defrag and registry cleaner should accomplish all you need to run relatively smoothly. but that being said it's not a bad idea to get into the habit of a clean wipe every now and then. it helps you remember to back up important data, and the system does run really well afterwards. Also if you got your system from one of the major manufacturers instead of building it yourself it's a good way to get rid of all the preinstalled programs that you never use.

I will second Trapsinger's advice. When I was installing on Windows XP, I used Tweakhound's "right way to install Windows XP" guide. It is easy to follow and a pretty comprehensive walkthrough for completely wiping and re-installing a system.
He made another for Windows 7.
