So I need/want/would welcome suggestions for a new processor for my PC. As a few of you know the one I have is not capable of handling Star Wars The Old Republic. It is just under the minimum requirements. I am about to buy a new power supply and I wanted to get the processor at the same time.
So, suggestions? Intel. AMD. Brand doesn't really matter to me, speed, power and reliability do.

I assume you have the Sandybridge, what powersupply do you have running with that? I'm only asking so I don't goof up buying, for example, 400W when I need 450W.

Nevermind. I went to BestBuy to discuss processor options with some nerds I know that work there (that refuse to answer their phones and I refuse to have an entire conversation by texting) and we made it to power supply units, I went with this: Thermaltake 850W

Cool and no I don't have the Sandy Bridge. I just have a 6 core i7 970 Gulftown with a 1,000 watt power supply. I went big for the option of 4 graphics cards a bit later. I'm sure I can run SWTOR just fine. I bought my system in November just so I could play SWTOR and GW2 at the highest setting. I think I bought my chip set and Sandy Bridge came out 2 weeks later lol

Yeah it was a higher 4 core than the ones out so I had to spend extra to go above that. I would have bought the Sandy Bridge in seconds if it was out then

I already asked Scary, so to everyone else: Are you computer hardware savvy? Sometime in the last 3-ish years my brain went all "uh dur what's that? duuuuurrrrr...." on me and I forgot most of what I knew about building PCs. I'm cruising around over at newegg.com, and realized, I don't really know what I'm looking for. I know I need a 939 socket processor, I looked it up and some geek friends I have looked it up from past purchases I've made. PC processor list at Newegg.com*IF* you have the time, this is the list I've been flipping around and looking at. Could you remind me what designates what I'm looking for? Intel Core i7-2600K Sandy Bridge 3.4GHz (3.8GHz Turbo Boost) LGA 1155 95W Quad-Core Desktop Processor BX80623I72600K 32 nm Sandy Bridge 4 x 256KB L2 Cache 8MB L3 Cache Series: Core i7 L2 Cache: 4 x 256KB L3 Cache: 8MB Manufacturing Tech: 32 nm Model #: BX80623I72600K Item #: N82E16819115070

Check out tom's hardware site. They have lots of guides, what is the latest and greatest, etc. I don't keep up. I just look when I'm ready to upgrade.

Kind of necro-ing here... but only kinda.
End result of the best I can do with my old set-up: Powersupply: 850W Processor: AMD Athlon 64 X2 6400+ Windsor (Socket AM2, 3.2GHz, Dual-Core) Added 1GB of RAM
I had: Powersupply: 350W Processor: AMD Athlon X2 3800
Thanks for the help, all.
Edit: Sooo much faster!!!!!!!
