So, this technology studio is apparently finding a way to stop using polygons efficiently. Essentially the level of detail in games/movies is going to skyrocket. The video explains it all a lot better than I could, so here you go. [DISCLAIMER: Best to watch in 1080p]

That's pretty damn cool! I am however, skeptical; not that the technology actually works, but that a games industry that has invested so heavily in polygons will adopt anything else, but it will likely require them to make all new tools.

Wow.
Yeah, that's pretty game-changing right there. And the problem with any industry is that the costs of adapting any drastically new technology necessitates a massive expenditure of funds. Also, older tech becomes obsolete if the competition forces you to go new, so most games companies will likely collude, and hold on to the old ways as long as they can. They like to hold onto new ideas until they become old ideas.
But the future's looking better and better! I just wonder what kind of video cards we'll need to run all that...
