Free World of Warcraft demo now available
By Peter Cohen
Blizzard Entertainment has released a free ten-day demo of World of Warcraft, their popular online role playing game for Mac OS X and Windows.
World of Warcraft, first released in 2004, is a worldwide phenomenon — millions of players compete and collaborate in servers around the globe. It’s a massively multiplayer online role playing game (MMORPG) in which you create a character from one of several playable races, specify their character class and profession, then explore a fantasy world populated by mythical monsters. You collect treasure and equipment, go on quests to earn experience, can participate in adventures with other players or fight them in arena combat.
The free trial edition doesn’t require any commitments — you can stop playing after the ten days — but if you want to, you can upgrade your account at the end of the trial.
The 10-day free demo of World of Warcraft comes just weeks before Blizzard is scheduled to release The Burning Crusade, the first expansion pack for World of Warcraft, which is due in stores in mid-January. The Burning Crusade extends the original game with new features like a new high-level continent to explore, new playable races, a new profession, new items and treasures to collect, new monsters, quests and dungeons to explore, and much more.
System requirements call for Mac OS X v10.3.9 or later, 512MB RAM, G4, G5 or Intel-based Mac 933MHz or faster, Nvidia GeForce2 MX or ATI Radeon 8500 or better 3D graphics.
