I realize that I might not stick around for long after Cataclysm releases, but I kinda want to be there for all the changes. I wanted to get an idea of who all is planning on going back and when.
I'm thinking of getting a two month time card and starting it in a couple weeks. I also plan on starting a new character when Cataclysm drops, which is something I was going to avoid at first but this just seems like something I shouldn't miss.
So who else is planning a return?

I'll play. It would be nice if you guys could pick a server soon. My vote is for a pvp server.

Correct Odie, we're on Silverhand / Alliance and I believe that's PvE
I'll just be messing with my Death knight until Cat drops, then I'll roll Worgen. Not sure on class yet though.

I haven't played since vanilla. Any suggestions on what expansions I should pickup? Is there a good place to get them?

I'm still playing and am planning to play awhile after Cataclysm releases. Right now I'm working towards leveling a few characters to 80 but can't wait to create a Worgen AND a Goblin at release.
I currently play on Stonemaul (PvP) Alliance side which I sorta hate so if others join back up I'll probably create/play a couple characters on Silverhand.
As for which expansions to get ... I have no idea. Wouldn't you kind of need them all?

I know absolutely nothing. I stopped following WoW before the first expansion. You guys are in luck, you don't need to buy any expansions, just reactivate your accounts. You will be updated to Cataclysm automatically and for free, basically. This expansion is an entire revamp of of the classic continents giving them new quests, new graphics, new layouts, etc. Story is an angry dragon comes and causes Lorderon to fall into disarray and chaos with volcanoes and other catastrophes. (For example Thousand Needles is going to be an underwater zone because it flooded, and the Barrens are split into two zones because a massive earthquake cracked a split right down the middle. A lot of the old content like AQ20/40 is being removed from the game altogether in order to update it to the new storyline.) And there will not be 2 separate worlds for "classic" and "cataclysm" players, everyone will log into the new world on Dec 7. Nobody will ever see the old world on live servers again. "Kansas is going bye-bye." So you'd still have to buy all the expansions in order to level to the new cap of 85, but 90% of the "new" content is the old world revamp which you can play up to 60 already. The only thing cataclysm allows you to do that you can't do with your original WoW box is play as the new goblin and worgen races and level past 60. Cataclysm trailer

I've been toying around with the idea of coming back to WoW for Cata. I know I'll do it eventually, so I figure I want to do it early when there alot of low level people to play with and GW2 isn't out yet. ATM, I'm probably not going to resub until Cata hits and I can roll my Worgen priest. Part of me is tempted to stockpile Heritage items and pay for a server change for my deathknight to Silverhand so I can use my accumulated net worth to speed my Worgen along. The other part of me is adverse to the monthly fee.
So I dunno! But I'll definitely play when Cata is released.

I'm playing on Mal'Ganis Horde side with my friends, BUT as it just so happens Alliance Silverhand is where I first started playing and I already have like 4 70s and 3 80s there soooo Yea, see you there. Also, I'll eventually play a new character, can't resist those Worgen. For those of you who don't know expansions are basically this: Outlands: Facing Illidian, the betrayer of the Night Elves, and the Burning Crusade. So basically no one likes him. Northrend: Arthas, who everyone also doesn't like, Quests make you feel heroic and that you're making a difference through the phasing mechanic, which physically changes the world after large events that you cause, happen. Cataclysm: Deathwing, the leader of the Black Dragonflight, has broken free of his confinement and is basically unleashing hell upon Azeroth. The goblins of the shattered isles are thrown into disarray and join the Horde once the Orcs come to save them from enslavement. The humans of Gilneas, previously locked away from the world by their huge-ass gate, (which has now been broken down from the earthquakes) join the Alliance. Thing is, they're not just humans, they're Worgen (Werewolves). So yea, the Alliance finally has some badass factions.
