As I continue to research why the heck I can't get my Vent to work right, I ran across instructions on how to set up Vent push to talk for private chat. Some of you may know about it but I hadn't heard of it before. Good for those of you with cyber needs.

Advanced Ventrilo push to talk setup
Many people are unaware that Ventrilo allows you to set up secondary push to talk hotkeys to communicate in private with other Ventrilo users on the same server. It's not the most intuitive thing, and isn't easy to explain, but I'll give it a try.
The normal way that people set up push-to-talk in Vent is through the "setup" button on the right hand side of the screen. This works, but doesn't allow for the "advanced" features of Vent.
At the top of the main Ventrilo window, you will see three lines:
User Name ->
Server ->
Bindings ->
For this, the Bindings is the section that we are going to be playing with. If you hit the "->", you will get a new screen that allows for the features we want.
At the top, you have "Bind name". Most people will have nothing here, so we want to make a new collection of push-to-talk keys.
Click on "new" to the right of the Bind name, and give it a name. I used "Push to Talk" without the quotes around it for mine.
Next, we need to establish our main push-to-talk hotkey to replace the "simple" setup we had from the "setup" button.
Click in the "bind key" spot, and then hit the key you would normally use in Vent for your push-to-talk in the current Vent channel. Don't hit the "add" button yet.
On the right, you will see the "function" entry, which should be set to "push-to-talk, Advanced". If it isn't set that way, set that option.
Under "Transmit Style", select "Current Channel".
So, with your Bind Key correct, Transmit Style, and Function set, click on "add". You should see the key added to the "current" section.
Next, we want to add a second push-to-talk key that will also work. So, under "Bind Key", put in your second "push to talk" key. Function will be "Push-To-Talk, Advanced", and Transmit Style will be, "User to User".
You will see at this point the following line will change to read, "Users logon name(s)" with a space below it and "..." to the right of the space. This is where you set up the list of people you want to send your voice to with your secondary push-to-talk key. Hit the "...", select a name from the list on the right, click on the "<- Add" button, and you will see the name move to current. When the current section is set the way you want it, click on "ok" to finish adding names.
At this point, you will have a current section with your main hotkey only, your "bind key" will have the new one you are setting up, Function, Transmit Style of "user to user", and a "Users logon name(s)" list all set. So, click on "add", and you now have two seperate keys set to work. You can add more keys if you want. If you later change a "bind key" to change the user to user logon names list, you should use "update" instead of add. Ask if this confuses you, but as long as you don't need to make a change to the list, everything should be set.
So, now you have your two bind keys under current, and are done with setting up bind keys. Click on "ok", and you are back at the main "Ventrilo" window. Be sure to select the "bindings" name you created with your two push-to-talk hotkeys or you won't have any push-to-talk working. You can have different bindings sets, and switch between them, but that's a different subject.
Now, you can talk in the current channel with one hotkey, and send a private message using the other.
If you run into trouble, be sure to make a comment in Vent so you can get help. You can also send me a tell in game if I'm around. I use both Targonis, Otog(my wizard), and on rare occasions, Targon.
I hope this helps...
