Does anyone happen to know a good program that allows you to see any and all processes that are running on your system? I have looked at the task manager and all the programs running there should be but the cpu usage doesnt add up. My cpu light is almost constantly on and i think i may have a virus or at least a program thats running in the background that i would like stopped. I have run both Adaware and spybot as well as Mcaffee antivirus and it still hasnt fixed this. Any sudjestions or possible solutions would be much appreciated.
I am using Vista .. btw

Ohhh - vista... Never mind... Was going to suggest "ps aux" or "top" but they probably wouldn't help you (linux commands - damn good thing you put that in there) Honestly I use task manager still, and system monitor, and process monitor (tool that combines a bunch of my favorite sysinternals tools into one) to track down runaway application threads. Yes - they're all free and two of them come w/ your computer Just takes finesse to get them to tell you what you are looking for.

Go to the Reliability and Performance Monitor, and in the right hand pane expand the 'Disk' and 'CPU' sections to see what processes are accessing what files. Is this a new install? eventually the indexing service will finish indexing everything. If its been going on for more than say a week, then thats probably not the case anymore.

For the record, Process Monitor (or is it Process Explorer) from Sys internals would be my preferred tool on windows. Tools found hereish.
