So is anybody using this? I have been looking at getting a new computer and one of my determining factors is Windows Vista Vs Windows XP. I have heard bad things about Windows Vista and am leaning towards a computer that allows me to keep good ol' Windows XP. That being said, all that I have heard has been via the Web and I know that negativity seems to abound on the Web. I haven't heard anything from any users first hand. And those great Apple commercials don't help either... they make me want to buy a Mac!

I have Vista and it runs fine. I like the new look and the security is much better apparently. It is sort of a toss up. Some programs and drivers don't work so well on it, but in a year you will probably have to upgrade (DirectX 10 is vista only I think). Oddly enough, the only serious trouble I had was with my ipod and itunes.

I've been running Vista 64-bit on my new Quad Core and for the most part, everything's working OK with it, but mind you, I have a 8800 GTX in it, with 4GB of RAM, but even then, it was a challenge to set it up. You gain nothing really with Vista, nor do you lose much. Drivers for graphics card aren't on the XP level, so right now, you'd assume that with a QuadCore and an nvidia 8800 GTX you'd get like a gazillion of fps in 1680x1050, but you aren't. If I were running on XP tho, the thing would fly off. Wait until big games like Crysis gets out and you'll be pretty sure the drivers for the nvidia cards are ready. 'til then... Only for willing people. It all depends on what you want to do with your computer.

I had it and uninstalled it because of driver issues with SLI cards. I like the new look of some areas but dislike the major changes from an IT persons stand point. Somethings they changed really didn't need changing and are now just a pain to find or figure out how to turn off. Eventually I think it will be a nice OS but it needs a little more time with developers of software and hardware in order to make it worth changing over from XP.

I'm running it in a VM session on one of my linux boxes - its a little difficult getting used to it.
I won't even seriously evaluate it until SP1 comes out for it (according to Microsoft - think September) but just in my initial build out and evaluation - its a beast even within a VM session, and I don't see the benefits to just going to it because its the new 'cool thing' hang until SP1, by then all the bleeding edge tech folks will have the bugs documented and MS will have them fixed and ready to go.

Thanks for the advice, guys. I ended up getting a system with Windows XP for now. I didn't feel like breaking in a new OS. I figure I can always upgrade down the road when necessary. I was looking at one of the Dell XPS systems, similar to the one you were talking about recently I believe, Maucabre. But I kept getting a message that they couldn't access my Dell account and check back later. Well, several days later, and many expletives later, I just ordered basically the same system from CPU Solutions upon the recommmendation of a couple of tech guys. Saved a very significant amount of money Vs Dell. *** crosses fingers that it works****
