anyone playing this? Heard some good things and though it is SOE (gasp) it's actually a good in depth game with some nasty sounding PvP.
24v24 is pretty hefty
anyone know anything about this game?
IGN is the only review I could find.
Weird that this one is going right under the radar.

I was in the beta. The sailing and improving your ship is pretty fun. The economic/tradeskill system is very complex. Reminds me of EVE online. The shore missions are lame.
The problem is that you can pretty much play by yourself. You get missions in town, then go to the dock master and click on him, then you load into an instance where you are your boat (i.e. no running around on deck unless you board someone or get boarded). So at its heart it is a "be the sailboat" nautical combat game. That is fun, but as a mmo, I found the combat portion to be lacking.
Fun for a while though, and probably fun if you run with some folks and get a nice production line going.

Played a bit of the "open beta". Too much instancing. Didn't get into it mostly because of that.

Yeah, because of the instancing, you pretty much need to have friends already when you start the game. So you might as well get a non-mmo sailing game that probably does the sailing part better. For an MMO, I was hoping to have multiple people manning stations on the same boat. You might try Puzzle Pirates. I'm Winin over there: www.puzzlepirates.com/It is free to play. I'm on Veridian. If you sign up through this link, we'll both get some in-game cash. www.puzzlepirates.com/?affiliate=r1032173&lang=en

At least Wow with a new skin and 3-4 of us playing will be more fun than sitting here with our thumbs up our arses getting impatient with Mythic ;D
I will try it tonight and let you all know.

Looks like they didn't put much effort in to making the sailing realisting. POTBC actually has decent sailing.

What you should do is put on a bandana and eye patch, then download my novel and read it.

I'm glad you are enjoying it. Does the eyepatch help?
It's pretty much like grouping with me in game, eh?

i like the character creation! that's usually where most mmos die for me. Yea I'm having a ball with that. Plus you can change it at any time(for free I believe) at a tailor. I like the ship battles personally. Would have been nice to have a group option for one boat, but you can board as a group. The on ground combat is alittle different, but nothing incredible and a bit meh. I like the Chain options for leveling. You see everything the character has to offer from day one, then you decide which way to go. No set path for your skills like other MMO's. And you can respec as well 100%. Lots of good ideas in this game. Wish they had done more with the land combat. Really has the potential to be a groundbreaking MMO but they cut so many corners. And for SOE, this is a grade A title rofl. Still gotta read your book Winin. Lol I find that I don't read to well online, need to print it up. Screen hurts my eyes reading after awhile. **Addendum Yea Winin I see what you mean in your first post. It's more a single player game with online elements. Like Diablo2 style. I personally like the instancing with my time schedule and random times for me to get on I can't really commit to any time schedule at this point in my life. I think if a few of us really got into it, it could be fun. It was fun playing together and doing all the crafting and being a self sufficient guild in Lotro, problem was that when others weren't on we suffered for it since it is a very group oriented game, and suffers big in solo play. It's possible, but boring. I think it would be sweet if we set up a good CoT production line(we should totally have our own stamps of tainty goodness) and keep ourselves on the up-and-up while we make money. I much more enjoy doing stuff for the guild then just keeping myself in gold. I was broke the whole time in Lotro, I think most of us were since we handed off all the sellables to each other rofl. I had a blast though.
