It would be TO.
Kidding.
Serious question though:
What if The Elder Scrolls Online wasn't an Elder Scrolls game? Do you think it would be received better or worse?
Do you think people's reaction would be more akin to "wow, this feels almost like Elder Scrolls, but an MMO!" rather than, "WHY THE FUCK DID THEY MAKE AN ELDER SCROLLS MMO?!?!"

I suspect the people complaining would still find something to complain about and the people who are happy would still be happy about it.
But I also suspect there wouldn't be first person mode, and people would say it was a GW2 rip off.

I think it would be ignored completely. Its the ES brand that gets it's attention. I know I want to fully explore the world for the first time and not just the country a campaign is in. I'm really looking forward to seeing what there will be from the history books I have read in Morrowind, Oblivion and Skyrim. Plus, the trailers are bitch'n (gets 10 points for using the word bitch'n)

I can honestly say I'd be just as interested simply because I've never played an Elder Scrolls game before so the name has no pull for me. I've started getting interested after I looked into what the game offers. If anything, I gave it a "meh" when I first heard about it, thinking "Didn't we just go through this whole single-player to MMO experience in SWTOR?"
I think you get more hype but you also disappoint a larger part of your fan-base. It's the same pre-launch story as SWTOR. The developer would have still pulled quite a bit of interest but expectations would have been a bit more in check. You're going to get quite a bit of negativity no matter what the game ends up being simply because, as an MMO, it's not a single player RPG and due to that, you're not going to please the people who only want a single player RPG. HEY THOSE PEOPLE: this game isn't for you! That doesn't mean this sucks, it just means you don't have to buy a game you know you don't want.
It's like marketing to kids... say your kid doesn't like chicken noodle soup, but now they have the noodles in the shape of Spongebob and all of a sudden your kid HAS TO HAVE THE SOUP even though it tastes exactly the same as the regular shaped noodle can. If you don't like MMOs, TESO isn't going to make you happy.

I'd still be interested because like Age of Conan, I prefer the darker, grittier, fantasy setting.
