On this week's podcast, we talked for a bit about the upcoming Guild Wars 2 patch. If you've listened to the show, you may be saying to yourself, "No you didn't." That's because I cut it from the show. I didn't read into the patch enough to really understand what was happening and I sort of babbled for about 5 minutes unexcitedly. It wasn't worth listening to.
My lack of excitement on the show wasn't good podcasting, but it did make me consider my thoughts on Guild Wars 2.
I love(d) the game yet I've had very little reason to log in for a few months now. I really don't care about what they've been doing with the Scarlett Briar story-line and I think the game development should have followed their traditional path of focusing on a larger expansion rather than bi-weekly drips of content. Now, the content HAS been amazing if you consider how quickly they're creating and implementing it, but it's slowly become a turn-off for yours truly.
So this week (today, actually) the next big patch hits.
"Escape from LA"
Lion's Arch will be under a massive attack by Scarlett's minions this week. Now, given that they've destroyed or altered parts of the landscape in the past but with only minor repercussions to the existing content, I was doubtful that these changes were meant to last more than a month or two and then BOOM, rebuilding the city would happen for a couple weeks and the after that, LA would be the center of the universe once more.
Maybe I'm wrong.
Here are some images of what's to come this week.
And according to John Ryan, the city will never be the same.
I think this is where ANET needs to put their proverbial dick on the table. They need to take Lion's Arch away from the players and have them rethink what the world of Tyria is.
