I recently cancelled my WoW account, after 3 years I finally felt I've done everything and seen everything there was to see in WoW Well, after going through a week of mmo withdrawals I broke down and picked up eq2. After about a week or two of playing I have to say eq2 is much better than I would have thought, actually it’s down right fun 'gasp!' I’ve been playing on Nagafen-pvp, evil side. After 3 years of wow this game has really been a breath of fresh air for me. I mean the game is deep, I mean real deep, with tons and tons and tons of content. It’s just amazing how large this game is, its kind of overwhelming at times. And if you’re into world pvp eq2 defiantly has it, at times a little too much if you ask me. Anyhow, is anyone out there playing this game? And if so, what server? And what do you think of the pvp so far in the game? I know I sound like a goof by saying this, but eq2 really is the MMO gaming worlds best kept secret IMHO. Zeli EDIT: Updating current EQ2 Contact Info on this first post so people don' t have to search. EQ2Forum Name : Server : Character Name- Pikcolo : Antonius Bayle : Pikcolo

Ya know, I tried the EQ2 demo about 8 months ago, and it was pretty fun. I liked the combat system. Never picked up the full game though.
How does a pvp server work? Like WoW, where you are safe for so many levels and then its free for all?

"Ya know, I tried the EQ2 demo about 8 months ago, and it was pretty fun. I liked the combat system. Never picked up the full game though. How does a PvP server work? Like WoW, where you are safe for so many levels and then it’s free for all?" Well, EQ2's PvP is team based; it’s basically good vs. Evil. PvP starts at level 10, and the only safe zones are your factions’ cities. Unlike wow were once your PvP eligable a level 70 can make life a living hell for a level 30 EQ2's uses level ranges where if a player is 4-7 levels lower than you, you cannot attack them unless they attack you first. If you fall into that level range, you’re pretty much fair game Also, if a player kills you, they will loot half your gold and a droppable item. This loot feature is pretty sick if you ask me, lol. There are no instance battlegrounds PvP in EQ2 like in WoW. EQ2 is totally world PvP, and I mean a lot of world PvP going on. Players are constantly forming PvP raid groups to storm the opposite factions areas. At times this can be a lot of fun if you’re the one running around in these gank groups, but if your questing or leveling it can be a pain getting rolled by these groups, lol No where is safe, even in the dungeons, wars will breakout between the factions for control of the area. Making it somewhat of a challenge to gear up your toon in dungeon gear. Oh no, you don’t just run into the dungeon to a safe instance like in WoW PvP. You have to fight tooth and nail to hold down what is yours, and to keep out the other side. So far Im finding EQ2 PvP fun and challenging, its harder for me then some of the Vets in game cause Im trying to learn what they've been doing for a year and a half, but Im having a blast as I learn. Finally, I've found that the EQ2 player base is very helpful, and will usually sit down with you and answer any noob questions that you might have. These guys are so helpful at times that you have to tell them “Ok, stop, Im ok now, you don’t have to sit here and hold my hand any longer” Im not making this up, these people really like to help. Although not a perfect utopia the players seem to be somewhat more mature and not bunch bnet kiddies that WoW has seem too fallen into Anyhow, if your interested in playing you should, and if you do join come and join my server on the evil side, Im sure you’ll have a blast. Finally, if you buy the latest expansion pack, it will include EQ2 and all 3 current expansions, it’s an all- in - 1 pak!?!?! Dude, now, I’ll buy that for a dollar.

I can't even imagine some of the EQ2 classes being viable for PvP...and, because of that, I can see PvE suffering. My enchanter would have been fun but no way would I touch my guardian in PvP...would have been a snooze fest.

" Now, that's evil. Droppable item? You mean, stuff that ain't "attuned"?" No, your attuned items will not drop after a PvP death, or legendary or epic items. More like spell books, grey items and other loot that you've pickup along the way. " I can't even imagine some of the EQ2 classes being viable for PvP...and, because of that, I can see PvE suffering.
My enchanter would have been fun but no way would I touch my guardian in PvP...would have been a snooze fest. " Your right about this, some classes do shine in PvP while others will take a lot of skill to show their potential, but it’s no difference than in WoW in its PvP as well

My guardian was so pathetic in pvp it was laughable. I do miss the game sometimes. My wizard was a lot of fun. Although I really miss decorating apartments, I dont miss the crafting grind, *shudder*

They may have changed it...I played it a while back...but my guardian had almost no damage output as opposed to my warrior in WoW that could spec into a damage role and do wonders in PvP. I even play a shaman in WoW as well and I consider them to be one of the weakest classes in PvP (after all the alliance cried and whined for such a long time - squeaky wheel). I guess my question is...have they changed things enough to allow classes like the guardian even a fighting chance? I was curious if they had ways to spec into more of a damage role aside from an equipment change? I always saw PvP in EQ2 as even more 'tacked on' than WoW to even consider a fair comparison of the two in PvP. I could be wrong though.

I’m still such a noob in EQ2 that it’s hard for me to answer that question?
All I know is that there is an AA's line that is equal to Wows’ specialty trees. From my limited understanding of the game, these AA points will dramatically change your characters role.
Plus AA's are gained by completing quest, discovering new areas and killing named mobs. They are not gained by leveling as in WoW. The AA's are something else; basically a character can earn 40 AA's by the time they are level 25 if he/she knows what their doing. In wow that would be similar to a level 25 Mage with 41pts in his fire tree, and 20pts in arcane.

If I were to play on a PVP server in EQ2, I'd roll a stealth class, like Bard. How's stealth in PVP on EQ2? Since you can actually run quite fast on EQ2 stealthed (unlike in WoW), I'd always run stealthed...

Stealth classes are nice in EQ2, just like in WoW these rogue type classes are very high dps toons. Now, bards are more of a utility type class from my understanding, although they are a scout class they give up a lot of dps so that they can enhance their fellow party members.
Stealth although is handled somewhat differently in EQ2 than in WoW. In wow once your about to go stealth, your pretty much gone until you decide to show yourself once again. In EQ2 stealth is pretty much only good for getting past pve mobs. EQ2 placed a lot of counters on stealth, from see invis spells and potions to other scout classes being about to detect one another no problem. I’m currently playing a Brigand on of the 6 possible stealth classes, Although stealth IS very nice, I've been killed many, many, many times while stealthed, hell it was like I didn’t even have it on half the times, lol
Although stealth doesn’t make you Mr. 'I can pick my own fights' like in wow, you are given a few nice perks, such as tracking and evacs as a scout ;D Many a pvp parties will ask you to join them because of these two abilities.

Are all or most classes able to solo in this game?
I did not play it past level 3 or so.

Every single class in EQ2 is able to solo, and solo well to 70 if I might add. Sony has added so much solo content to the game that at times you'll find yourself disabling your XP!?!?!!? I know that this sounds strange to disable your XP, but if you started playing you'll understand what I mean by it ;D
