Is anyone playing this game? I'm going on a 10-day work trip, and my laptop won't handle Vanguard. So, I downloaded the 14-day trial. So far so good. I have two chars: one to try out combat and one to try out tradeskills.
Let me know if you play, I could use a guide. The tutorial is loooong, but I'm done with it now. I even got a new ship, gun, missile launcher, and ammo for the combat char.
My chars are Wingtin Li and Criswell.
ps: I've been reading up on Star Trek Online and it looks like it has some good potential. I figured EVE would be a good teaser.

Winin, I've played EVE for a while, it's a fun game, but can get boring really fast if you don't create your own content (either with a corporation, ie guilds in this game or with a group of friends). Plus, PVP in this game is brutal. Don't go into <=0.4 sectors... ever... if you don't want to get podded by player pirates. Rebuying your ships and losing your cargo off player pirates is always a major upset. Especially when they message you after to tell you how much you suck. That being said, since you can level up character's skill while you're offline, CCP doesn't allow you to have more than 1 character actually learning new skills at the same time. So, if you intend on having one character more "fighter oriented" and the other one more crafting/mining oriented, you'll need more than one account. It is not unusual for people to have 2 accounts. Wish you luck...

I just want to check out each path, to see which I prefer. Not sure if I like the combat, but the big battles look cool to watch in videos. Reminds me of Freespace.

I think this is the game we all tried a while back. I gave up on it about 43 minutes into the getting started tutorial Cool idea though!

Yeah, that was painful. Fortunately they have HBO in the hotel room for the boring parts, and long jumps trails to go pick up ship parts 10 sectors away.
My first attempt at mining/manufacturing were /meh. Collect resources, buy a blueprint, then pay the manufacturing costs and it happens while you are away. Like SWG without the optimizations. I'll keep going and see what happens.
Maybe try some combat missions tonight.

YOu see zeli is known to piss on her rig to get it to work right - one time after an exciting incident w/ arcing of electricity... she's started turning it off.

It took me a while to find out that you have to hit /esc to get the menu to quit the game. I had to ask people. I'm having a hard time getting into the game since I'm a ship. I don't feel connected to my avatar, and they don't have an interior view, so I can't get into it like the old x-wing games. Oh well. I'll be home soon and can play VG again.
