It looks like a bunch of Wrasse's folks are going to try it, so I'll be joining them.

Sounds like Diotrum & Mihos from FGK at least are gonna try it. Mihos mentioned Shidreth server.

I don't have permission/access to the FGK forum anymore it seems. Wrasse's Posse is going for the Hilbury server, so I'll be there and on the team pvp server. Winin and Zook on both if I can get the names.

Sorry Winin, I'm not an admin on that board...I think only Kalaz is. It's been dead for years, though. Only very rarely are there any posts, most of them being 'hey, what are people up to??'.
Based on your description Winin, and several other peoples, I *would* like to try this game. I just don't know if I want to swing another per/mo fee though, not to mention the $50 or whatever, if I dont end up liking it.

Yeah, I know what you mean. Plus, the first few months will be tumultuous as they get the final balancing worked out. Might be best to wait a little while to see how it shakes out. I am not into WoW enough to get the expansion, so I'm going to let that subscription lapse while I try VG.
To sum it up, it seems to be pretty much what you would expect from a next game made by the people who made pre-kunark EQ. They have learned from other good MMOs and taken a lot of little ideas, but it seems to be designed using the same design documents. EQ wasn't designed to have a long lifespan though, and this one is being designed to be easy to update and expand, without breaking it.
It is the same and opposite of Lucas and Star Wars. It seems to be the game they wanted to create but couldn't back in the 90's. Only this doesn't suck like Star Wars episode 1-3. They did it right.

Here are some screenshots. Some are at 2nd to lowest graphic setting where I play, the others are at highest setting, which is painful to play at. At the end are a few at a griffon giveaway event. They wanted to see how many peeps they could get in a zone before it crashed. It crashed after I got my griffon, but before I could ride him. D'oh! screeniesI love the way the trees look. They are all unique.

Nice write-up Winin I'm far more inclined to give this game a try now. I've been waiting for a new game to give me back that old EQ feel, and this looks like it just might do it. I'll be on Kilsbury too whenever I get the game. I don't know if we are starting a guild right away, but I know everyone will be using the /kindred channel. -Ssark

hey Winin, Shidreth is the server that some of the FGK are playing on. I know Barrick/Galendril made a char named Galendril Silverdawn, and at least Zannah, Mihos, and Diotrum are playing.

Yep was able to play for about an hour. Got to level three...woohoo! haha It's a bit laggy at first, but it smoothed out after a bit. Combat is very EQII - ish. Playing a cleric and I'm able to actually fight. My only complaint is the main screen map is tiny.

My dad and brother are into pvp, so I've been spending a lot of my time on Varking, the team pvp server. So far I'm really enjoying it. My favorite classes right now are Blood Mage (a necro-ish healer) and disciple (a monk-cleric). Both are primary healers, but the gameplay is very different than anything I've played before. Like the EQ bard, they can be bad if played poorly, but they look to be really good if you play well and come up with some good tactics.
I'm also trying out the tank classes as I try to settle on one.
The rest of my time is on Woefeather with Wrasse's bunch.
Grouping up and crawling through dungeons is awesome fun. Fundamentally, this game is what the sequel to EQ should have been. Still buggy, but the underlying mechanics are sound and fun. Seems easy on the surface, but there is a lot of depth.

The main question for me is... ... do you have to group? Or is solo leveling an option?

If I recall correctly you can solo for a bit, but the game is very group heavy.

They say they put solo stuff in throughout, and for each monster, there is a level and "dots". so, an even level monster that is 2 dots should be soloable. 3 dots duoable, etc. 3 dot lower level would be soloable etc. so it is easy to tell if you have a chance or not while solo.
Some classes solo great, others not, like in any game. Unlike WoW, you level faster in a group than solo, so in that sense, it is a grouping game. Also a lot of dungeons will be tough to solo, like Wow.

Let me tell ya'.........there's not enough webspace for me to post my opinions on this title. I'll just go ahead and say it's crap and leave it at that.

It does seem to be the love it or hate it kinda game. It has clicked for me, but I can easily see how many people wouldn't like it.
