Ever play a game that made you jump or startled you? There have been points in F.E.A.R. for the PC, playing in the dark w/headphones that made me jump in my chair.

Doom3 has got me a couple times - since having kids I can't crank the volume but with a headset on and something bursting out between your legs - yea its got me more then once...

Woot! Good thread. System Shock 2...the whole zombie-borg-space-lifeform thingie was cool. Then there was Shodan as well...fun stuff. I have FEAR and need to play through it...Mal loaned that one to me. I guess Aone in the Dark had the same effect...but SS2 is still the king, IMHO.

F.E.A.R. startled me at times. The original Alone in the Dark did that too. The freakiest game I have played was probably Eternal Darkness for the Gamecube. You played a girl who was reliving the past of a haunted house. The game messed with you as your character lost their sanity, doing strange things with the sound and picture (even a fake glitch screen). It wasn't exactly scary, but freaky and well done.

Oh on the console...Silent Hill kinda got me. The resident evils startled you but Slient Hill was all kinds of creepy. (although the storyline was waaaaay out there at times)

Never played console games really (unless you count watching my son play Zelda) and my experience on PC games is limited but yeah, DOOM used to scare the bejesus outta me from time to time. I hate being startled, BTW....it makes me violent.

Definately the scariest two games I've played and System Shock 2 and FEAR. There are scenes in both of those that startle you and scenes that just kinda creep yeh out - the creepy ones are the worst. =)

Yeah, System Shock 2 with the ghosts was bad. Also the Aliens mod for Doom. When the first alien jumped out of the wall at me, I freaked. I was playing in the dark and creeping around through the level.

The scariest game I've ever played was Alien Vs. Predator. The first time something came bursting out at me from the shadows, my legs kicked out, sending my chair rolling backwards. However, my fingers were still glued to the keyboard and mouse, so I was flattened out with my lower half as far away from the desk as possible and my arms sticking straight out trying to maneuver my Alien out of the way. Fun stuff!

When I was a kid, nothing scared the piss outta me like Resident Evil. I loved that game. I haven't played anything recently that scared me, but I haven't touched a console in years.
