Fair warning: I dislike both.
Therefore my opinion doesn't mean shit \o/, but all of my friends that were in the BF3 beta absolutely loved it.

I'm a Battlefield fanboy, I won't lie. Have been ever since we used to LAN 1942. I built a new PC when BF2 came out because I wanted to be able to enjoy the experience as much as possible.
I will not deny that the actual run and gun mechanics in Call of Duty feel more solid, but in my opinion that's the only thing CoD does better, and that's only marginal.
I think CoD is a great series and I've always felt that it did for shooters in single player what the BF series has done for multiplayer. For me though, the multiplayer is what has a more lasting impact. It's why I put my money into the game and it's where I feel I get the most return on investment. BF just has a fuller experience for me.

Vehicles. Nothing like getting ready to infiltrate a building when your buddy who just rolled up in a tank blows half of it away and gets five enemies in the process. Or when you see your allies in a jet or helicopter strafe some dug in tangos only to fly off in some intense dogfight!
Modern Warfare is nice for E-Peening with run and gun combat and kill streaks. Battlefield is literally that. A complete battlefield experience.

Battlefield has consistently better multiplayer than CoD. CoD has consistently better singleplayer than Battlefield. Thus, whichever is more important to you should dictate your purchase.
