Had to go look and you were serious. Pandas. The new zone looks pretty, but Blizz always did a good job with their zones I thought. It seems to me that WoW is increasingly becoming more of a game for the teen set. I like how one of the comments is that WoW is doing what no other MMO has done before: lasting longer than any other MMO. Le sigh. Eh, their numbers may be falling but to what? Still several million or so. Poor Blizz...

Soooo Pandas and Pokemon are the newest expansion's big reveals.... Someone's afraid of SWTOR Not sure if you meant that in the tone I'm taking it, so if I'm wrong let me know. But seriously, we're still bashing Blizz? Doesn't it get old? To say they're "afraid of SWTOR" is like saying Microsoft is afraid of Apple. Of course they're going to compete with them on every level, but if you run a company and take any competitor lightly, you're doomed to fail. WoW has likely passed it's prime but it was inevitable. To characterize Blizz's efforts as anything more than trying to stay competitive in an increasingly crowded market would be a bit naive.

Blizzard is amazing. They made the biggest MMO that will probably ever exist. Their success is well deserved because they made a solid as hell product and never let up giving people what they want. They essentially created the space program for MMO's, reducing the length of time it would take for major steps in the progress of MMO's to happen.
That said, I try my best to steer clear from bashing, and I don't think anyone here is really doing so (more like pointing out that they're going further and further down the rabbit hole and it's becoming obvious), but I will admit that I'm more than ready for WoW to take a backseat.
Call me hipster, but it's like my favorite sub-genre of music became stupid popular, and while at first it was all great, I kind of just want the old bands back.

Totally agree with you Grok. Seems silly to hate on them because their game is evolving. May not be for me, but it'll be for a lot of people.

Totally not hating on it, I just sort of laugh a bit at what they'll come up with next. I've been playing WoW for probably 6 years now, and whenever I do trek back to Azeroth its a blast. Its just interesting to see the sort of well.. gimmicks, Blizzard comes up with to sustain such an old game. It works, and I've got no beef with that, but it just comes across as a bit silly to someone who was around way back in Vanilla is all. No hate, just giggles.

I think all games keep an eye on each other. Did you notice that TOR announced their release date right after Diablo 3 announced theres. Something that Blizzard is typically famous for.

I take bashing of Blizzard the same way I see bashing in sports. People tend to hate the ones who are always blowing away the competition. Or in other words, it's good to be hated. And in Blizzard's case, they are just laughing on top of their mounds of money and diving into their piles of gold like Scrooge McDuck. I know little of the Warcraft lore other than what I saw in WoW. As I understand it, the Pandas are pre WoW lore. Regardless, the pandas fit right in to WoW, imo. They've always had sort of "cute cartoony" characters, like the space goats and even the night elves. I always thought WoW was beautiful and loved exploring in Vanilla WoW. It does seem to me that it draws more of the younger crowd these days, although it is quite possible that is only me getting old.

It works, and I've got no beef with that, but it just comes across as a bit silly to someone who was around way back in Vanilla is all. No hate, just giggles. See, I think characterizing features as "gimmicks" is exactly what I'm talking about. To refer to their efforts to update the game as "gimmicks" implies that the changes are reactionary, goofy and desperate. I just don't buy that line of thinking. Panadarans are a cool nod to WC3 fans and they've been rumored since the first expansion was announced. The Pet Battle system I haven't looked into yet, but if I know Blizzard, it will likely be an awesome feature for people that enjoy that kind of gameplay. Not to mention the new Monk class which looks to be a lot of fun. I think we all love this industry and want to see it get better. By buying in to the stereotypical fanboy reactions we typically see on Massively we're not really supporting the industry, we're just feeding into the noise. Anyway, I know you're a smart guy Rer and I know you don't buy into most of the bullshit, and this little rant is really directed at the morons on other sites and forums that are constantly looking for a reason to tear another company down. But I don't bother engaging those guys because it would be like banging my head against a wall. But here in our little safe corner of the internet I feel like I can have these conversations because I respect the opinions of everyone here. So I hope no offense is taken, because I certainly don't mean any.

Nah none at all taken sir, I've known you wackos long enough that we can have discussions like this and it's no big deal.
Perhaps gimmicky isn't the right word. Just totally out of left field for someone who's played since Vanilla.
Playing Pokemon in WoW is just the last thing I expected hehe. (Though if I do ever go back I'll totally try it, MINI RAGNAROS I CHOOSE YOU!) Still wondering if they'll release any info on Titan... And Heart of the Swarms release date.

Wait, not only are the WoW players getting Pandas (yay for the Korean and Chinese players! now farming gold for real money is even more fun!) and Pokemon (I don't care, the Japanese still won't start playing WoW! They have Lineage!), but they also plan to add Monks!
Yeah, still not going back to Azeroth. TOR is on the Horizon, and until it gets here I have some things to find in Arkham City, and Assassin Screed comes in a few weeks.
I can't believe we ate the whole thing...
