I'm getting questions from my friends asking "What makes Rift worth the $50?" They've read my article, and they've read other blogs. It then dawned upon me that the best people to ask are all of you guys.
So if you don't mind, what in your opinion makes Rift worth the $50?
Thanks in advance guys, hopefully with your responses they can get a better grasp on the game than just my ramblings.

If only to reinforce the fact that a bug-free, highly polished, and most important FINISHED MMO will be highly rewarded by customers in the MMO community, it's worth the 50$. Not to mention, yanno, the everything else. That's probably my biggest reason for shelling out the cash. I want the industry to know that if they release something of this quality, I will pay for it.
So tired of broken/buggy/unfinished games...

For me, it's the flexibility of the classes. As a warrior, I can switch from he-man tanky thing, to the destroyer of worlds(2h sword champ/void knight). Healers can go from complete mdps to heal bot, and any where in between. A rogue, traditionally thought of as simple mdps, is one of the most flexible archtypes out there. Everything from support, to tanking, to traditional style ganking. There really is a play style for everyone. And the "rift" system is great. You can be sitting there questing one moment, the next there's a rift spawning on your head. Certainly an entertaining experience. Oh, and give the pvp a shot if you haven't. Truly enjoyable as long as you work together

$50? Hell, I'm throwing $80 for the CE.
Gamers give devs a lot of shit for crappy service, "paying for beta" games. We've become so used to it that we have come to accept it.
Trion has bent over backwards in ways that few developers -- few BUSINESSES in general, actually -- have done. It's really not enough to say that "they listen", because I'm sure ALL developers listen. But few actually act on the desires of the community; they have such a selfish vision of what they want that the needs and wants of the community (the people they want to pay for the game) fade off into the recessess of time. People get angry and annoyed, and they take it out on the devs on the forums. If nothing else, I'd say that Trion and their behavior needs to be rewarded by ANYONE who loves MMOs and who thinks that the genre and the industry is moving away from customer centric focus. They simply got it right where other companies have been failing more and more over the years.

I agree with the statements above but would like to add my own two cents.
I just like the whole cinematic feel to the combat. The other day I was camping some mineral nodes when a water rift opened up right next to me. I was five levels higher than the rift level so I run over and start tanking it. Then a cleric joined my party and we just went apeshit on the rift. During the whole event I couldn't help but to feel badass. My character was sliding all over the water by knock backs only to run back in and pop off some sick combos.
I also like how quests work in this game. How when you accept a quest from a hub it unlocks the ability to take others from nearby NPC's. Which all send you to the same location. Unlike in other MMO's when one hub has you running all over map forcing you to run for 15 minutes just to turn in one quest.

I played the beta and had a ton of fun. I stopped at level 29, but I could see that the fun had not diminished and was continuing to hold my interest. It was at that point that I decided this was an mmo that I wanted to invest my time into. Great devs, solid game, a bright future in my opinion!

So if you don't mind, what in your opinion makes Rift worth the $50?Rift has already provided me with about 20 hours of solid, unbroken, fun gameplay. That in itself is worth $50. If you enjoy the MMO "experience", enjoy public quests and plan on playing for a couple of months, it is a small investment to make for a lot of content. The game is fairly solo friendly as well, so that's another consideration.

If you enjoy the MMO "experience", enjoy public quests and plan on playing for a couple of months, it is a small investment to make for a lot of content. The game is fairly solo friendly as well, so that's another consideration. My reasoning was long these lines. I've been catching up on some single-player games lately and enjoying them, so dropping $50-60 for a month of gameplay was worth it for me. So far, my /played is in the mid to high 20s or so. By the time the month is over, I'll have clocked more time in this game than any of the single-player games I could have spent the money on. As for gameplay, as others have said it is much more polished than I'd expected. So far, any bugs I've run into have been negligible and haven't impacted my gameplay enough for me to care. The queues are wild, but I've been lucky enough to avoid them due to my random play-times. If anything, the only thing I haven't enjoyed so far is finding groups for things, but then, that's the same in most MMOs and only really happens in off-hours. Hmm..actually, the other thing that's slightly annoying lately is how often they've brought the server down to patch. However, I see that as a positive thing since it means they're not afraid to upset a few people right now to make sure the game stays running as well as possible. After all, it is still just a headstart for now, which is basically just one last giant stress-test for the Developers before the actual Launch. Not to mention, the downtimes tend to only be for 30 mins or so at a time. The painful part is the queue if you don't sit there and jump in the moment it's back up.

Beyond that, it really depends on the player. I generally need an emotional attachment to the lore, so my interest in Rift up until now has been mostly due to social pressure. That changed over the weekend though. But that lore tie-in is not a requirement for everyone.

The way I see it, I'd pay $50-60 for a single player game which I'd probably play and finish within 1-2 weeks. Even the longest RPGs will probably entertain me with 50 hours of gameplay, 60 tops.
Now I look at how much content Rift has to offer and I already know it's going to keep me busy for way longer than that. There's just so much to do, I doubt I'd run out of things even if I play for hours every night for the first free month. Having enough content to amuse me for that long and a high level of polish, those things make it worth it for me, even if I don't subscribe afterward.

I like that I can change my role to suit my desire at the moment while still progressing my character. I don't feel like I need to research my skill point spending ahead of time or stress about what class I'm playing and how it will be in the future.
If they had a sidekick system, then it would be ideal.
The quests are pretty generic, but I'm getting into the lore, and the dynamic world events (rifts, invasions, etc.) make the world seem a bit more alive than other recent games.
Pvp is the way I like, scenario style.
