As some of you probably already know, Battlefield 3 will not be available on Steam due to some Valve policies that EA doesn't like regarding connectivity with the users. They're saying they want to provide the best experience possible, so they want direct connectivity, which Steam/Valve....I guess....doesn't allow. I was going to write up a post for the site about it, but I think Ben Kuchera at Arc Technica puts it better than I would have: tinyurl.com/3pt77ew"When gamers think of EA, they remember fighting with redemption codes to get their Dragon Age content or having to set up another account to play a game online. They think of DRM. EA can make well-reasoned arguments about why it won't put up with Valve's DLC requirements all day long and it won't matter: the company has not put in the legwork to make friends with the PC gaming community."

I do want this game, but I'll be damned if I buy it through Origin, for exactly the reason cited. I know it's available via GamersGate and Direct2Drive though. I've never used either myself. Does anyone have any experience with either?

Does anyone have any experience with either? I've bought a couple from D2D and it was fine. No problems at all, although I thought their downloader could have been maybe a bit more refined. That wouldn't stop me from buying from them again, though.

It has to yield you a code that Steam accepts. I think it was Brink that I did this with.

I use Direct2Drive all the time. I used it before I even knew what Steam was and still use it when they have sales. I have never had any problems with the service. I think they've recently done away with their downloader or changed it.

Well I haven't reinstalled TQ since I rebuilt my PC a few months back. Maybe I will give it a shot EDIT: Ahh well, it didn't work. But then I saw they had all 5 X-Com games in a bundle for $4.99 ...I couldn't resist!!

For your convenience, they hired Rupert Murdoch's crew to hack your phones and bank accounts so they could set up Origin accounts for you. Credit card info is already filled in and set to autopay.

Wow I was really looking forwards to BF3....
Guess I'll just save 60 bucks and keep playing BF2 as usual.
