Although im a huge Warhammer 40k fan the only game on the radar for me is GW2. I loved the graphics in Aion i just didn't like the Asian grind mechanics that seem to be so popular in that game. After seeing this latest video im hooked. The non pvp centric comments on SWTOR just put the nail in the coffin on that one for me. www.guildwars2.com/en/media/videos/#gw2-video-manifesto ;D

TOR isn't going to meet peoples expectations. Its hyped outta the ass.
GW2 is going to surpass peoples expectations and show them a whole new perspective of MMO games. Innovation is key!

I agree with Professer. GW2, while on a lot of people's radars, is still not getting the PR love that ToR is. I think it will disappoint in that it simply can not live up to the huge expectations of the BioWare, Star Wars juggernaut.
I never played GW. But it is looking like I will give the sequel a whirl. I like some of the concepts they have for game play.

I keep trying to like GW, and it seems to have lots of things that should do it for me, but for some reason, it just doesn't click for me. I'm sure I'll get this one at some point because of the no subscription fees and the fact that my brother will likely get it, but I'm not at all hyped or drooling for it.

I keep trying to like GW, and it seems to have lots of things that should do it for me, but for some reason, it just doesn't click for me. You are by no means alone in that opinion, lots of people I have talked to across WoW, WAR and Aion have all given me reasons GW1 didn't click with them: 1) Everything is instanced (no persistent world). People like randomly running into other players outdoors and it just doesn't happen here. 2) Terrain is clunky (invisible walls, no jumping). The scenery in GW1 is gorgeous but it really is just a backdrop, running into an invisi-fence as you approach the edge of a steep cliff or failing to negotiate a 1 foot rise in terrain really ruins the sense of immersion for a lot of players 3) Low level cap and no gear inflation. The level cap has been at 20 since Day 1... max damage swords were +22 on Day 1 and continue to be +22 five years later. The game has always been much more about what 8 spells/skills you have on your bar and much less about what you're wearing/wielding. 4) No RvR or similar PvP campaign. GW1 took a very small step in this direction during the "Factions" expansion but nothing that would remotely impress a lot of the DAoC alumni around here. 5) Economy is unorganized - no Auction House or Item Broker, if you have an extremely valuable item you still have to hit the trade channel or offline forums to find a buyer. Despite all these critiques I still really like GW1, btw Items 1 thru 3 will be addressed without a doubt in GW2 as their solutions are already part of the hype. Items 4 and 5 are a little less clear at this point.

Not to naysay, but I have a feeling, due to technical limitations, that it will still be instanced somehow. You'll be able to run into people, but I can't see how they will get away with those visuals without either the areas you are in being really small and broken up, or they cap the number of people in an area via instance (like how Aion did).
BUT, I don't think it will be a detriment to the game, although if this end up being true, people will shit.

Do we want to start a pool on how long CoT will be in this game?

I'll call that in 1.75 Months, 8 people will be actively subscribed to the game.

Game is sub-free and capped at Level 80 with a flat leveling curve so I would give it a bit more time... my bet is that 3 months after release, 8 people from MP will have been logged in at least once during the previous week. And as for the instancing issue Slurm... I think your prediction has a high chance of being right. Remember the "Channel Change" in Aion where if there were too many people in Poeta Channel 1 you just switched to somewhere in Channels 2 thru 10? Be on the lookout for something very similar in GW2.

So, looks like 8 is the number of players we need to hit for the pot, now let's define actively playing. Logging in once a week as Keiner suggested sounds good.
I'm going to bet 2.5 months.
