I've always been curious of what happened to Aion, if they ever fixed the grind and managed to make PvP less zergy and more skill oriented, but I can't bring myself to re-up my account.
Anyone have any first-hand experiences they'd like to share?

I second this!
I have been thinking about this game lately. So beautiful, but so grindy.

Ok, I'll tell you what I can. In recent updates, they've added yet another boost to xp gains, I think it's limited to the range from 20 to 35 or so. This is in addition to the energy of repose buff you get from not playing for a while, due to working or sleeping or whatever.
Second, there are a few more quests, most of them repeatable. One interesting thing is two factions which you can join, which offer daily quests. The rewards for the quests are a random (food, drink, or potion) item, some xp, and some progression badges which can be exchanged for rental equipment. The highest of these are at level 40, and they last up to 14 days. Weapons all give you a 14% attack speed or casting speed boost, which might help the grind go faster.
Also, the servers have merged, so there are only 5 now, as you may have heard. Finding groups should be a bit easier.
There were some other additions too, mostly affecting late game enchantments and manastone additions, by way of selling some augmentation powders.
So the grind is still pretty much there, the PVP is still group/alliance zerg, I think that's pretty much everything covered.
The next 'expansion' will be on September 7th, and it will be free. Not sure if I'll be on much, I really haven't lately, so it probably won't keep me from ending my subscription. I may not delete my character if I do that though...
Of all the things I've ever lost...right now, I miss my pants - it's cold out here!
