There was a bit of an announcement on Aion's homepage today, be sure you get over for a look-see. There will be some enhancements to the energy of repose buff, a decrease in soul healing costs, and apparently double experience on weekends.
I assume the idea is that it will alleviate the loss of players. Since the grind is one of the main reasons people claim to be leaving the game, and "sources in the know" have suggested that the grind is part of the cause of the bots and gold spam, they seem to be trying to work on all the problems by dealing with the source, or at least one of them.
Some, however, claim that this simplifies the game and dilutes the experience. Others assert that because something is difficult and time-consuming does not make it rewarding.
Rer has decided to wax philosophical about this topic, I would suggest you check out his editorial posthaste.
i asked all of them the same question i asked you; but they didn't have the right answer.

Read the letter carefully, "some parts require development time". I'm guessing that means "We are adding more content."

Right, if they're going to do a complete overhaul of the xp system, add new content, or something else major, it will definitely take time and funding. This is only a stopgap measure. They may or may not make some changes in the future.
They have REALLY got to start communicating with the players. This shit with twitter feeds has got to stop. I realize that they have accepted that the official forums are not often used by the populace, and that the unofficial official forums at aionsource are where most people go for news about the game now. Still, it would be nice to hear from them once in a while, even there. This is likely yet another reason that people have left in droves.
the people are suffering, master! we cannot remain in seclusion on this mountain forever! we have the power to end this madness, and we must use it!

Is it noticeable when playing that people have left in high numbers? I remember first getting that sense in WAR, which was depressing, because I was still really enjoying the game at that time.

It hasn't gotten to that point yet, there are still a good number of people playing. Statistically speaking however its quite obvious people are leaving.

The former CotNS (now Muppeteers) on Lumiel has not seen much of a dropoff, we started with about 20 actives, with two or three going on hiatus (but not canceling) replaced with other long-time CotNS joining up late in Aion. However some of the larger guilds have been harder hit... Vigilance has lost a dozen people out of about 90 total. Many other "big name" legions on both sides have taken to recruiting/absorbing smaller legions as of late. I haven't seen a login queue on the server since about two weeks after release.

As far as visible drops in numbers, I can't really say that I've noticed much of a difference. Some guild have folded up, that's true, and there are some legions recruiting some of the members left over. I have seen a noticeable drop in bots and gold spam, and it keeps decreasing. There are some new bits of info about the new xp boosts, apparently the double xp weekends affect ALL levels, the energy of repose buf grants 40% extra xp, and the decrease in soul healing is about 20%. The double xp weekends are this weekend, which is almost p, and the next two weekends. If you're thinking about coming back, keep in mind that leveling will be a bit easier on the weekends.

The double xp weekends are this weekend, which is almost p, and the next two weekends. If you're thinking about coming back, keep in mind that leveling will be a bit easier on the weekends. Well the first double XP weekend is history and WOW did it make a difference. First off after outcry from the fanbase they extended it to ALL levels not just 1-35. I grinded out level 43 in about 7 1/2 hours split across two sessions on Saturday and Sunday. Found a good spot and got into a rhythm. Double XP + 40% Energy of Repose + Lodas Amulet (I used 1 each day) really got the blue bar moving again... For the 2 hours total I had Lodas up I was burning consumables to eliminate downtime and during each of those hours I got 3 full "bubbles" of XP. While these weekends are going on it doesn't really make sense to do quests since the quest rewards don't double... use the double XP weekends for pure grinding and do quests on weeknights. There were definitely some odd things going on this weekend.... my gf rolled an assassin up to level 14 on Friday then she decided since crafting XP was doubled, she would start churning Cooking work orders.... by going from 1-399 in Cooking, her Assassin went from level 14 to 24! Without killing a single mob. Although it did cost a few hundred thousand kinah
