Twas' positive reinforcement with some examples. ;D
In regards to that exclusivity, I disagree with that model completely. Everyone should always have an equal opportunity to get it, its just a matter of it they are willing to put the effort in or not.

Yea, I can totally see having the Wookie as a companion if it takes a ton of work. Or maybe you have to do the story a certain way. That would be classic Bioware. In Dragon Age, I missed a couple allies the first time through just because of the way I played through.

I agree with Rer. As it turns out, apparently SIs have an ability "Dark Heal"
I don't give a sh*t about game mechanics. There were plenty of ways Bioware could have gone about this without needing a dedicated "healer" class or classes(Kolto, anyone?). If they're really making them "heal" without any kind of drain component, that's a bend in Lore I'm not entirely willing to take.
Is it gamebreaking? No, of course not. But it will take away from the overall enjoyment and immersion.

On the healing I agree to a point. Although not many authors explore the concept, a couple I've read have had instances of Sith using a heal when in need. It is made clear, however, that they are much weaker in that side of the force and as such it is much less effective. It is not impossible though. Take KOTOR...even though I never used it, Force Heal was usable for extra force points to keep yourself in the fight.
Here is a perfect example:
Although it was believed that malevolent Force-users could not employ Force healing, this was a wrong assumption. The dark side could in fact be used to heal, but, twisted by the dark side, such power came at a terrible price.
The most 'benign', to the user at least, of these side effects was the healing being temporary, and requiring renewed applications or constant concentration to remain active. Among the dark side practitioners despite this discouraging result was Darth Bane.
I wonder if it will work along the lines of Illusionist damage from City of Heroes/City of Villains. After a certain amount of time the damage done is restored. This would be the reverse of course, and actually would add a nice depth to the Sith Inquisitors in my opinion. Can you imagine being the tank in a fight with Dark Heal being used on you? You have to keep an eye on the "clock" in order to avoid death. Or perhaps out of combat he would become critical. In the context of PvP this wouldn't really work, but it's a cool idea.
EDIT: Another really cool example:
Perhaps the most curious example of the dark side's cost of living is the case of the ancient Sith Lord Darth Sion, the Lord of Pain. Sion could focus on his own pain and agony, using it to fuel the dark side and recover from grievous wounds nearly instantly.
Sion's capability with this technique appeared almost perfect, but over time his injuries accumulated to such a degree that he was in constant agony. This, however, he welcomed, as it fueled his power. To accomplish this task, he channeled the Force constantly to literally hold his shattered body together. Fortunately for Sion, it was very much a circular power: more pain beget more power, more power beget more capacity, more capacity beget more pain.

It feels like with every bit of news they are releasing lately, I am looking less forward to the game.
I don't want a Wookie companion. Done. Full stop. I don't want to play Han Solo or a cheap copy of him. In an MMO I want to make MY character. I want to create the appearance, and back story and motivations throughout a given environment and story backdrop. It's beginning to sound like a lot of this will be spoon fed to us by Bioware. This sounds more like Role-Watching rather than Role-Playing.
Voice overs, predetermined relationships and space combat on rails... will I be able to go anywhere without Bioware deciding it for me?
Of course it's all still speculation. They could announce something tomorrow that completely changes my opinion of how this will all work out. Undoubtedly this is going to be a hell of a game for a large group of people, but it's becoming increasingly less likely that I'll count myself in with that group.

Maybe they are looking at the Jedi in SWG at release and thinking, well, people want to play one (jedi/Han Solo clone), so we need to give them the Star Wars experience they want. In a sandbox style game, jedi and wookie companions should be rare and cool when you see a player with one. But in a personal story/themepark style game, I'm fine with letting the fools have their tartar sauce.
Most likely though, they are thinking, people loved X in our single player games, so lets put that in too.
And re: Grok, I remember the point when I quit Baldur's Gate. I left town and hit a fork in the road. I randomly selected one direction and was having fun exploring/killing. My whiney companions kept hinting that I should go north instead, but I ignored them. The farther I went, the more they complained. Eventually they threatened to leave my group if I didn't go north. I don't really like such linear gameplay, so I quit and never looked back.

Neither do I actually. Even in KOTOR, I hated that freaking walking carpet. I killed him first chance I could. There were, however, a ton of other companions to choose from. I hope that by the time SWTOR comes out there will be at least as many choices. You will still have YOUR character. Maybe Grok and I will be the only Wookie-less Smugglers.
