Super Hero MMO's don't work for me. I can't buy into a world that has 2,000 super hero's running around. Leaves me with the feeling that I'm a kid and its Halloween.

I agree that a bunch of superheroes running around lacks some immersion. I think that is one reason I like to make my heroes look more normal. But, I'm playing a MMO, so I have to check my reality at the door anyway. Plus, flying or superjumping is awesome!

Getting faction gear related to a boss or mentor character would be nice, sure. If I got some evil clown gear to go in my costume, that would really perk things up.
The superhero games are fun, don't get me wrong. I just really got tired of grinding out missions in City of, they were so repetitive. It was always save/kidnap the npc, defeat/kill the target villain/hero, disarm/set the bombs, basically find and interact with the shiny things.
There was a lot of controversy, and perhaps some legal maneuvering, when City of Heroes first arrived on the scene. Marvel and DC both wanted a piece of them, but some of the webcomics guys were talking about how it would be great to have a game in those universes, or maybe even an alternate dimension hop into Earth-616, or the DC multiverse.
Anyway, those that are going to the DCUO camp, let us know how it goes!
Have fun storming the castle!

Kendou, I agree with you about CoH. STO is pretty much the same, but the missions, instead of being generic random, and all Star Trekky, so I find myself not minding the mindless repetition, because the being in the Star Trek universe aspect of the game adds a lot (for me). Each mission or mission arc is basically a chance to play an episode or trek movie.
I think I would have stuck with a superhero game if Batman were giving out the missions and they all felt like I was playing through a Batman comic, gaining levels in Batman's army and trying to become his right hand man. But I love the Batman comics.

I played CoH/CoV for 5 years straight, and by all counts of repetition you are correct. To Cryptic's credit, that game was developed by like 5 dudes in a basement that wanted to play a superhero MMO. Once it got going and they got funding the game grew....but at its core it was a small game.
I don't really see any issues in superhero MMO's losing immersion, because I mean...all we want is to watch/read those movies/comics that have ALL the heroes and villains going at it at the same time. Because it has that epic feel. CoH/CoV pulled this off to a degree depending on what server you were on. My server (Virtue) was extremely active and almost always had lots of Hero vs Villain action.
Regarding DCUO, I am unsure some of the decisions they are making are going to kill the game or not. One example is that the PS3 and PC servers are going to be separated. I mean, to me that kind of defeats the purpose of launching an MMO on multiple platforms. I like the idea that it will be action based, and the environment can be utilized. I feel the same skepticism though, that the game looks janky so far.
Assuming the game is not bad, however, my Supergroup from CoH/CoV is planning on getting into this game, so I will keep everyone who is interested about what server we will be on (if at all).
Also, for anyone who is interested in the story of the new trailer, here is a rewind theatre from some major comic book geeks that I found rather enlightening.

Yes, thank you for the video. But I have one question. Why is one of those IGN dudes named Hilary?

Maybe his parents wanted to toughen him up, or maybe they're foreign. Some names that Americans consider feminine or masculine are not so limited in the cultures that their ancestors came from. Ever hear of Sir Edmund Hillary? Perhaps he's even named after that famous alpine explorer.
My name is SUE! HOW DO YOU DO?

Can't say that I have. But I do like your Johnny Cash reference. It was just odd to hear the name Hilary for a male first name.

Oh yeah, it was weird, don't get me wrong, I was just playing Devil's Advocate. He must have had a hell of a time on the playground as a kid. I know I had a rough one myself, being named something other than John, James, Bill, or Bob. At least I wasn't named Hilary, though, poor kid.
My name? My name is GLADIATOR!
