I don't see it as free labor for a game company.. I see it as working to perfect a game so that I can enjoy it in the future. If there wasn't something in it for me, I wouldn't be working for free. Its also not about playing the game before everyone else. For some people thats true, but I don't have to brag about how big a dork I am to feel good about myself.

i agree, but to get back to the original topic...
LOTRO does not feel like this:
and it should. that's what people who pick up LOTRO want to play. and by people, I mean ME.
The graphics are nice but they're not... well... they're better than DAoC but not as good as WoW. Not nice enough for a MMO that's just been released. The landscapes are nice.
The gameplay seems to be all questing so far and lots of them. They do have a neat twist to some of their quests where you cannot be seen by certain NPCs or you fail. It adds a little spice to the collection quests.
Some of the UI is kinda clunky. That may be because I'm a newb. I'm just now level 8. Too early to draw any conclusions. It is interesting enough. With EQ2 I didnt even finish the tutorial before I knew I was done. Horizons didn't make it out of character creation. CoH lasted about 2 weeks.
They do have voice communication in groups. That's nifty! Not sure I'd want that in a PUG though.
The deed book is nice, but it's organized weird.
There are alot of things with fighting and building my traits that I still need to learn, so that interests me as well.
The PvE so far is not as engaging as WoWs was at release.
My opinion - if you're looking for your next big mmorpg hobby, this is not going to do it. if you're simply looking for something as filler until WAR comes out and your sick of WoW, it may do the trick.

Lord of the Rings is first and foremost a book. The game follows the book to the letter. In a way, a lot of people are also looking for the feeling of the books. The movies, while great, didn't follow the books to the same extent. IMHO. Altho, I'd agree that considering the vast success of the movies and the fact that a lot of people DIDN'T even read the books, some people might be disappointed with the look and feel of the game, versus the game. I find that fact sad

I didn't mean make it a movie. i meant the excitiment of the fights and battles. the intensity. i didnt think quoting tons of text from the books would convey it as easily. They have a limit on characters in posts. ;D

Last night Ab wasn't into logging in, and I didn't want to get ahead of him in quests so I started a Lore Master Elf for solo days. I went through it a bit slower but I was able to get into the story more. The Intro quest was neat and the small scenes help develop the story without being too long.
I don't like that sometimes they give quest rewards that my character can't use. Some items are BOP.
You do have to open up our travel routes, but they are saved from character to character, so I was able to take my elf to the hobbit area.
Beginner areas are small hubs and the NPCs are crowded together to the point that they overlap and their names and titles are difficult to read. It looks very jumbled. I've turned it off so that I only see names when i click on an NPC.
Sometimes if an NPC quest giver is in use, you have to wait for that player to be done to speak to it.

I think the way it works is that you're able to swift travel to the major cities for 1s whatever you've been there or not. Like I can go to the dwarf big city from Bree for 1s even if my character didn't go there. Probably the case for the elves to Michel Delving. Or maybe you're right and you only need one character to go there. However, I doubt that, because I went to Rivendell with my Burglar, yet my Guardian can't go there.

That also happened in all the MMO I ever played. WoW the first to come to mind. The fixed that in Outland by given the choice of like 6 greens per quests. However, sometimes, all the choices can't be useful for your particular class/spec.
that's what I do. Have floating names off for NPC and on for players and items on the ground. When I get into a city and don't want to see all the names all over of players in crowded areas, I hit the "n" key to turn everything off.

about the not being able to use quest rewards: I know it's the way it's always been, but WAR's already said they're making sure if you get a reward, you'll be able to use it. I really like that idea. I guess I was hoping they had adopted the idea too.
I put the graphics up all the way and the game looks much better, but it's too laggy, so I have them on High and it's pretty good still. I like how vegetation sways in the breeze. Very nice touch.
Lore Master: Zeliel
She's already level 6. I'm hoping to catch her up to us on days that Ab is playing his other games.

I tried for a while on Ultra-High with high rez textures and I had to go back to High with some tweaks in the advanced graphics tab. I now run in "Custom" To avoid stuttering and if you have 2G of RAM, check out the Texture Cache Size and raise that to 1.00. It'll avoid the constant loading of textures from your harddrive and keep them into memory.
