I saw that too...
*looks angrily at his CE box*
I'm not surprised, nothing surprises me about that game anymore...

It will go down as the game that I just could not believe didn't pan out. SO MUCH MONEY, not only from my purchase of the CE, but EA's money!
Just..... how did it do that?!?

It will go down as the game that I just could not believe didn't pan out. SO MUCH MONEY, not only from my purchase of the CE, but EA's money! Just..... how did it do that?!? To put my mind at ease, I chalk it up to blind arrogance on BW part. It's sad really, I beta tested that game for a year and a half and was in the special "Revanite" program. The general beta forums became nothing but barrens chat, and the only real discussion was happening in the secret revenite forums. For a while anyways, until they just simply went silent and stopped talking to us. The funny thing is, the revanite forums were never released from the NDA. Bottom line, it was said over and over to infinity what they needed to do with the game, but Georg Z had his vision (or someone's anyway) and nothing was going to sway it. I cannot remember his exact words, but he posted that BW and their metrics knew more about what players wanted than the testers did, and our job was to test and not make recommendations or request changes to the general design. The funny thing about the end game stuff, is we questioned about it not being tested in beta... we were told they had internal testers on endgame. The craziest thing was we were told up to the end of beta that "We have tons more content, stuff you haven't seen. This will all be in at launch and you will be surprised." Surprised is right... the game at launch was the exact same thing we had been testing all along... Oh well... live and learn I guess.

Considering I couldn't even make it to max level without losing interest, I'm not surprised at all.

Considering I couldn't even make it to max level without losing interest, I'm not surprised at all. Same here. Thing is, I absolutely LOVED my Smuggler. One of the most fun classes I've played in an MMO and he looked exactly as I hoped I could make him. But by the time I was in my mid-30's I felt like I had done everything interesting and content just started to all blend together. The more I think about it, maybe I will check it out when it goes free. For nothing else but walking around Tatooine and space combat. edit: One thing I thought of after writing this is that I think the amount of people we had in the guild going in and the excitement that came from just knowing there was 20-30 of us on a night was amazing. I might regret picking up the CE a bit, but I don't regret playing. Those were good times.

Any of the class stories would have made a great single player game. Even if they used the same maps and stuff, they could have done 8 fun single player games. They just didn't have the social hooks that MMOs need to keep players grinding away.

I loved my Consular's story. It had a great villain and set up.
Then, at the end of Act 1, I met him and defeated him.
Then the story tried to move on to another threat. I just couldn't get into the story after that. I had already defeated my "big bad".
I felt like they should have drown that out longer, maybe have him kill one of the people I knew, something to make that inevitable confrontation more meaningful.

Hah, the trooper story did the same thing around level 40. I lost my momentum then.

Funny thing is, while I loved my Smuggler, I thought the story was dullsville. The guy I was chasing down was a douche, but forgettable. There was more side stuff that I found compelling than the actual class story.

Degan, your beta story sounds so like what I remember WAR beta being like, it is kind of scary. It would seem the only thing BioWare got from Mythic was the Marc Jacobs "STFU. I know what I'm doing" MMO training.

Haha yeah... matter of fact, that's what got me kicked out of the revanite program about a month before launch when I posted that "This shit is like WAR all over again."
I think that was the last post I ever got to make in those forums because the next day I had no access to them... and no notifications, and they never answered my emails asking about it.

If it's any consolation to you CE owners, they must have not had many available because I tried buying one about an hour after those links appeared on Reddit and they were already sold out. (Fry's and someone else had them for the same price.) A similar price drop happened with the Lotro CE when it was announced to be going F2P, although admittedly the Lotro CE doesn't have a big statue it just had a ring and cloth map. It got marked down to $15.
