The Halas starting zone wasn't as impressive as I was expecting. I thought it would be steps ahead of the other new player areas but the look of it wasn't anything special... that's part of why I was so turned off by it.
People recommended Halas because it was the newest zone and supposedly the most polished, but imo a lot of the snowflake/snowball/snowstorm creatures just look like colorless blobs, sparkles or blobs of sparkles. With everything being so white the world just kinda blended from one area to the next with hardly anything interesting to see as I ran around.
Everything just felt really low-res and plastic, generic looking and I couldn't get that feeling to go away no matter how high I cranked up the graphic settings. But I'm only speaking from about 15 hours played time in EQ2X.

EQ2 does have some age on it at this point. 2004 right? I believe I recall a WoW Vs EQ2 flame war ongoing at Amazon of all places. This was before I even knew about gaming websites after all. So I suppose the graphics might look a bit dated. And I think Dean was saying that it doesn't hold up well with all our new systems, designed for single core CPUs. So that would explain it.

EQ2 has always had that plastic look. It made the metal armor and hair look particularly bad in some cases.
And yes, EQ2 came out right before WoW I believe. The Neriak starting area is pretty good in terms of variety. I made a halas character, but haven't had a chance to explore much. I did seem a lot like the original Halas area, or maybe more like the boat dock area in Velious.

So I downloaded the client, got it installed and am trying to create an account. I think the website or account creation thing is borked because I receive no emails or anything. I try to log into the game and it says I do not have an active subscription. When I check the Turbine account info page all it shows is my DDO account info.
I guess I am suppose to receive an activation key for LotRO, but of course that never comes because I receive no emails. Anyone experiencing the same issue or have info on this that will help?
I have found their forums to be useless. Most of the entries are blank or contain information that has not been useful.

I have an account, so it hasn't been a problem for me. However, I haven't been able to create an account for Shannon yet. I haven't been able to get around the product key. edit: By the way, I am on the Nim server, character names Aruth and Zalandrin. Eric/Galendril's playing there too, El

Maybe they are overloaded with all the new players and such. Let me know if you are successful. Thanks!

Booo.... found this: "Adding LOTRO (or DDO or AC) to an Existing Turbine Account If you would like to add a LOTRO subscription to an existing Turbine account, please contact the Account Management department via phone or email and they will be happy to assist. We do apologize, but we don't currently have an automated option to do this on the website." Found that tidbit here: forums.lotro.com/showthread.php?336217-Error-Creating-New-Account-or-LOTRO-Sub-on-Existing-Turbine-Account

The queues are only around 6-10 people whenever I see them.
